Episode 3

I can not put into words the absolute happiness I feel at knowing my Sunshine is awake. Not to mention the doctors said that he should recover completely with no long-term side effects like after his bashing. Fucking bastard Hobbs, he better hope the cops get to him before I do, he will need the protection.

I still can't believe after all these years he is still after Justin. Justin never said his name last night in his hospital room. He didn't need to, the fear I saw in his eyes was all to familiar. Then he mentioned the best night of his life, even Michael picked up on it right away. I know I am not the only one that wants to get his hands on that fucker. Shit, if it gets out on Liberty ave that he went after Justin again, there will be a full on gay mob after him. Justin was loved by many, his friendly sunshine of a personality made it hard not to love him.

I finished packing the last of Justin's stuff to take to the hospital. The doctor is releasing him today under the condition he takes it easy and stays off his feet as much as possible the next few days. I knew Justin would be more comfortable at home. Detective Calvin is coming by tomorrow to speak with Justin about the accident and I promised I would not leave his side. Locking up the loft I headed back to the hospital. Time to bring my Sunshine home.

Walking up to the nurses station I smile at Ann. She looks at the duffle bag over my shoulder and gives me a big smile in return. "Happy to finally get your Sonny Boy home, huh?"

I smiled bigger. She remembers me calling him Sonny Boy from six years ago, "You have no idea. After this stay and what we went through last time I hope he never has to come here again. No offense."

She laughs, "None taken. Don't forget I was here with you last time too. I saw what you went through, watching over him all night, every night. I am glade you didn't go all clock and dagger on him again. He seems happy to know you were here with him."

I sighed remember his stay after the bashing. He never knew I watch over him every night. "Can't get away with that this time. You know that was only because I felt guilty. If I had not gone to his prom and made a big scene with him, he would have never had his head bashed in with a bat."

She looked at me like a disappointed mother. "We both know that is not true. From what you told me about that asshole kid, he would have done it anyway. The only difference, if you had not gone, Justin would have probably died. Who would have saved him if you were not there."

She was right, I knew that now. Where was I this time? Hobbs tried and almost accomplished killing Justin again. I noticed a new nurse standing off to the back of the nurses station looking at us in a strange way. She looked at me with judgment in her eyes, as she approached Ann.

"Are you talking about the teenager you told me about in training. The boy who was hit with a bat at prom and was in a coma here for two weeks." She was looking at Ann now.

Ann smiled and nodded, "Yes, he is in room 612 Justin Kinney though then his name was Taylor not Kinney. He is an amazing young man."

"And how did you manage to stay here all night every night watching over him." I could see it in her eyes, I knew where this was going. Wouldn't be the first time Justin and my relationship was looked down on.

"Kate that is none of..." I waved Ann off, I appreciate her attempt to stick up for me but it is not necessary.

"Justin was eighteen at the time and a very important person in my life. I was with him when he was attacked as I am sure you overheard. Aside from that prior to Justin turning eighteen I was listed as his medical proxy and legal guardian, due to his father's hatred towards him for being gay and in a relationship with me." I smiled at the end thinking of the night Justin stood up to his dad when he started beating the carp out of me outside of Babylon.
