CHAPTER 9

 Princess Ethista

{In this chapter, whether referred to as Ethista or Tracy, they are both Tracy’s soul in Ethista’s body}

Selena's, I mean Sienna's, giggles filled the dark chambers of the castle as I chased after her.

"Slow down Selena, I can't run in this dress," I said with a cold edge

"How many times shall I remind you, it's S-ii-enna," she answered stressing on the 'I' in a way that made a laugh escape my mouth

"Ohh come here you little thing," I said getting hold of her dress.

She laughed as she quickly hid her face with her little hands in embarrassment then said, "fine, Ethista, you get to ask."

"Not here, come to my room."

We walked down the long staircase as the gray of the walls faded into the bright white of the castle. Most of the decorations surrounding us were see-through to represent the ice of Ice Land.

The hallway had white ceramic floors and white walls which were just too pure to be real. At the end stood a huge piece of ice, shaped like a door, the door to my room. The two guards pulled their crossed swords away from the door and let me in.

We sat on the bed, Sienna in front of me, as I braided her blonde hair adding diamond hair pins to match her eye colour.

"So.. What is it you want to ask?" She asked first

"Well, for a start, do you know anyone named Selena?"

"Nope, such names are barely ever heard of in Ice Land. It sounds too unfamiliar to our ears, we prefer simpler names like... Jushita."

That's ironic; very age seems to find the other age's name as pathetic as they thought of theirs'.

"And who's Jushita?"

"Ohh, she looks after me while you and mother are away attending one of those royal meetings."

I looked at her thoughtfully then asked, "Is royalty here passed by from father to son?"

"No, or else you wouldn't have been the princess. See, it’s a little complicated. Ice Land is very different when it comes to authority. Here, every time a king dies another is elected instead. There is no such thing as princess or prince just because they are the children of kings. Even kings’ wives aren’t considered queens. The naming of King and Prince depends on an age barrier set in the laws of Ice Land. This is of course just an exception for Ice Land, it isn’t common in the neighboring lands. Coming to how you became a princess in a place where women are considered weak, the answer would be our father’s noble death and your sacrifices."

"What do you mean by ‘In a noble way’?”

"Ethista, you told me half of these things; why are you asking?"

"We had a deal, kiddo. I caught you."

"What's kiddo?"

"I am the one who asks the questions here. So how did father die?"

"People of high importance are not allowed to take parts in the wars; they are left to rule. But then when the air of Ice Land was thick with the blood of the innocent, father insisted on taking part. He was the reason Ice Land is safe now, although  it was in trade for his life. As an honor, they passed the crown to you instead of finding another powerful king," Sienna explained in a manner that made you forget that she's just a 10 year old.
