CHAPTER 12

Crystal Opaque.

"I'll leave you be, then," Drake said finally after a lot of persuasion.

The moment his back turned to me was the exact one I fell to the ground with only one of the trees behind me available for support. I don't know exactly how but as a laugh of madness escaped my mouth, I fall asleep.

THE FINAL DREAM.

I look around me but there is nothing to be seen in this endless blackness of the night. I sniff the air for the smell of greens just to end up with the Siberian coolness of ice without a smell to locate.

Where am I?

"Ethista," I call out in a hushed voice

No reply.

So I just sit there awaiting some scene to be revealed in front of me again, like in any dream, but the silence keeps dragging on.

"Tracy," called a distant sweet voice

"Sienna," I reply with a sign of relief

A small figure carrying a candle slowly came closer to me as I sit and await, limbs frozen with fear.

"Sienna," I repeat with more enthusiasm as more of her face shows beyond the candle light

"Se-ll-ena," she corrected with her genuine smile as she gave me one of her marshmallow hugs

"Where are we, buttercup?"

"I don't know, but I imagine it to be where Belle ends after the Beast fails to get his kiss before his rose withers away"

I let a laugh escape my mouth, all part of the madness

"Well, how did you get here?"

"You told me I'll never get over it, so I'll be like Tracy was in that story... Awaiting forever what will never come"

"Get over what?" I asked, perplexed

"My cancer"

"So you really did-"

"Yes, I died. Everything sort of crumpled down since you left us. Mom breaks down out of nowhere, Drake stopped attending school, and my cancer did what your diary said it would. I am not blaming you, I was already passing away by the time you attempted suicide. I stayed there to watch whatever happened next then left"

"You left for rebirth?"

"I am stuck here. I don't think this is by any means reincarnation."

Stuck in my dreams.

"What happened to me?" The coldness in my voice was growing back, as if all the taming failed

"Nothing, you're still there lying on a hospital bed with Drake by your side. The doctors did everything possible but, although alive, you remain there passed out. Julian pays visits to my grave and your room the whole time, it's all she could do not to die in grief herself"

It was crystal clear, she was blaming me. She was accusing me of being foolish, of leaving both my best friend and her own mother drowning in an ocean of agony that she helplessly dragged them into. The difference between me and her, what made my half-sister a thousand times better than me, is that I always had the choice whether to leave or not.
