(Ember's POV)
The police asked lots of questions, but thankfully Calum could answer most of them. The police had said that only Calum and I were allowed in the room. It was very hard for me to be separated from Maya because I needed her especially after what had just happened. I was so terrified. I had always been scared that something like this would happen, but now that it had it was different from what I imagined. I was still shaking and Calum held me the whole time the police asked me questions. If he hadn’t held me I would probably not have been able to talk because I was trembling so hard. He had strong arms and I felt safe in them. But as soon as we left the station I returned to Maya and Luke. I thanked Calum constantly because he had practically saved my life. The police said that what the man had done was not enough to be charged a lot of money or be imprisoned for a long time because all he had done was pushed me to the ground and lay on top of me. I didn’t understand how they came to that conclusion but I brushed it off because he was drunk and I was thankful he hadn’t gone any further. When I had told Maya that, when I returned to our room, she was furious, she thought I was crazy and had said that she wouldn’t let him get away with what he had done.
“Maya, just leave it until after this week. I don’t want it to ruin the rest of our holiday.”
“Ember they are going to tell your mum anyway, do you really think she’s going to let you stay here?” I didn’t answer because we both knew that once she found out our holiday would be ruined. I walked out of our room and went to go find Luke because he had texted me saying he was really worried. It was around 10am and I hoped he would be awake because I needed to talk to him. I found Cal asleep on the couch with a controller in his hands. I was glad he had finally fallen asleep because he needed it. I walked up to Luke’s room and pushed open the door.
“Hey, Em.” he came up to me and we hugged. I pressed my head to his chest because he was so tall. He engulfed my body because I was so small, even though I was average height for my age. We stood there for a few minutes before he asked me the question that started the conversation I didn’t want to have.
“Ember, you’re going to have to leave after your mum finds out, won’t you?” I looked up at him, into his bright blue eyes and nodded slightly. He gave me a weak smile, one I couldn’t return and he looked up back into the distance.
“I don’t want to go. I had such a great time. I especially don’t want to leave you guys. I know we have only just met but I feel like we have been friends forever.”
“I don’t want you guys to leave either. But you’ll be safer back at home.” I smiled because he was concerned about our safety again.
“What if we never see each other again?” I couldn’t look at him anymore so I rested my head back on his chest. He breathed out with a heavy sigh.
“Don’t even say that. We will all get together again…. I promise. I don’t know how because you’re from Melbourne and we are from Sydney but I know we will see each other again. Plus, there is Skype and face book and we all have each other’s numbers, trust me we will meet up.”
“I need to go pack now.” I left his arms reluctantly. We hadn’t talked about any sort of relationship but I liked it that way, somehow it made it more fun to stand there in his arms. It made every intimate moment we had more special. I know that sounds stupid but it felt right. I hoped he wouldn’t ask me about it before I left because it would make leaving even harder.
“I’ll come help you.” He grabbed my hand but I didn’t pull away. He hadn’t held my hand before, but it was electric, his warmth radiating through to me. I squeezed it gently and looked into his eyes, smiling. He smiled back and we walked back to my room. We packed my bag in silence. It was broken by a call from my mum.
“Hi…”
“Oh, thank goodness you’re alright. I was so worried.”
“I was so scared mum. I’m alright now please tell me you’ll be able to sleep tonight?” I had worried that her anxiety would overload again.
“I hope so. You’re coming back today?”
“We couldn’t get a train back today. We found one for tomorrow though.”
“Okay sweetie, well I have to go to work now. Bye.”
“Don’t worry too much Mum, love you.” I hung up and sat back down on the bed. Luke had left the room because he didn’t want to intrude on my conversation with Mum. I finished packing because there wasn’t much left and texted Luke to say that I’d be playing COD with Maya for a while and if he wanted to join. He texted me back saying that Ashton had made him go down to the shops to buy some snacks. I wasn’t disappointed, I was glad that the boys weren’t totally dropping everything because of what had happened. I joined Maya on our couch as she had already loaded the game.
“Awesome, you’re playing. I have already packed, you?”
“Yeah, thanks for the idea of COD, it will get my mind off everything.”
