(Ember’s POV)
“His pulse is slowing!” I stuttered out and everything went into a blur. Luke. My boyfriend lay still in front of me. My beautiful boyfriend, the one who had loved me even when I was crazy. The one I’d cheated on, the one I’d yelled at for something he didn’t do, the one who didn’t deserve me, and that’s why I wanted him so badly to survive right now, because as these moments flashed into my mind, I knew that he didn’t deserve to die without having a beautiful girlfriend who was not utterly crazy or stupid, not a cheater or some fucked up bitch, not me. But mostly I wanted him to live just because he was a part of me, I mightn’t’ve been a part of him, just some fling, but I knew if he didn’t live through tonight I wouldn’t live either.
“Miss, Miss!” I blinked and shook my head, finding my eyes focusing on a brunette nurse. “We need you to fill out Luke’s details for us.” I slowly nodded my head and began to fill out the long and detailed form. My hand dragged along the form in a rush and I stood up to give the clipboard back to the desk nurse.
“Do you know if Luke is going to be okay?” Calum and Michael came running in asking the same question.
“Currently his condition is critical, the doctors and nurses are working with him right now. We have to ask that you wait out here.” She replied in such a static voice I wanted to scream at her.
“Is Ashton here?” Michael asked.
“I’m right here.” Ashton said coming around the corner from the emergency room. I smiled weakly and waited for him to sit down.
“What happened?” Michael asked.
“The nurse said I have a fractured arm, they casted it and gave me some pain killers.”
“We can see that, what actually happened?”
“Well…..” He paused and averted my glaring gaze. “I’m so sorry Em, I should have listened…I just really wanted to get to Maya.”
“Ashton, I know that, but it’s going to take me a bit for me to get over it, because of… what has happened.” My yelling fading as I finished the sentence.
“Ashton just tell us how it happened.” Michael said sternly.
“Well we were driving to the airport and some hoon was next to us on the double lane. It was okay but then he swerved in front of us. I tried to dodge him but… and now Luke’s in hospital and it’s all my fault.” Tears ran down his face as he looked at me. I smiled sadly and looked down. Parts of me begged me to hug him, but I couldn’t bring the rest of myself to do it.
“Excuse me, are you all Luke’s friends?” I jerked my head up at the sound of the nurse. “The doctors have asked me to tell you that he hasn’t shown any signs of recovery yet and they have put him in an induced coma to help him, they are working on stabilising his condition. He will need to have some operations done later this week. The doctor said it would be best if you guys went to have some rest and we will keep you updated if anything happens. You can come back tomorrow, you should be able to see him then.”
“Thank you.” Calum said and stood up as she walked away.
“C’mon Ember, we should go.”
“I’m not leaving here.”
“Ember you need to sleep, you won’t be able to see him tonight.”
“I can sleep here, and what if something happens I want to be here, I won’t be able to sleep anyway.”
“I’ll stay here with Em.” Ashton spoke.
“Are you sure you want to stay?”
“Yes Cal, you guys go get some rest and I’ll call you if anything happens.” Michael and Calum reluctantly left.
