Chapter 8
(Maya's POV)
"So where are we going exactly?" Ember asked Luke as we walked along the main street.
"It's a surprise, Em. Stop trying to spoil it." Luke said lightly punching her on the arm. She giggled and they continued teasing each other. Ashton and I walked behind them. Ashton wolf whistled again and Luke glared at him while Ember was looking in a shop window.
I turned to Ashton. "She would've killed you if she heard that." I laughed.
"I know but it's still fun to tease them." He smiled at me taking my hand. I didn't pull away, it gave me chills looking at our hands and feeling his warmth on my palm, it felt natural but it dawned on me then that tomorrow I will be leaving and will never see him again. We both looked up as Ember yelled.
"No, put me down Luke, now!" Luke had picked up Ember because she had kept annoying him, nudging and lightly punching him. He had slung her over his shoulder and she was looking at me with the stupidest grin she always did, winking at me and gesturing to Ashton and I's hands. I winked back, remembering she hadn't seen us holding hands yet. I raised my eyebrows back, giving her a look which said "and yourself!" She smiled and continued punching Luke's back anyway. I turned to Ashton who had been looking at a car across the road.
"Ash, do you think we could stop for ice-cream later? I know you've got things planned for us but I think it would mean the world to Ember, especially after what..." he pushed his finger against my lips.
"We have already planned that, don't tell Ember okay?"
"Oh, I won't. Girls do keep some secrets from each other." I laughed. Looking up I saw Ember and Luke standing outside a fancy pizza place.
"You didn't!" I say running up to Ember who was smiling at me. Ember and I had been talking about going to this place since we'd arrived but after what had happened we hadn't mentioned it.
"I fucking love pizza!" Ember said in some stupid mixed accent and we all laughed.
"Well we thought you did, you wouldn't shut up about this place every time we went past it." We all entered the restaurant. It had a rustic feel to it and was quite cosy, not like the usual fancy restaurants. Ember and I hated those. We sat at a table for four while Luke went with Ember to grab some menus.
"I really don't know what to say, thank you so much Ashton. It means the world to me, and Ember." We glanced over to them, Ember was smiling and laughing at Luke who had just fallen over a chair. "I haven't seen her this happy since well, never. It's such a contrast to yesterday."
"I'm glad. It's only going to get better" Ashton giggled and winked at me. I loved it when he giggled it was the cutest thing ever. Luke and Ember joined us and Ashton let go of my hand to help Luke pass a menu to me. As soon as I took it he held my hand again. I looked over at Ember, she was looking at the menu, worried. I could tell she was worried that her allergies would ruin the night the boys had planned for us. She looked up at me catching my glance. She gave me a half smile and nodded her head. She wanted me to tell them about her allergies because she hated to tell people.
"Uh, guys, Ember wants you to know that she has allergies and sometimes cannot eat some of the things on menus, particularly if there is egg in the pizza base." I glanced up to Ember who was staring at the floor, Luke was looking at her too and grabbed her hand. "It might be best if we all ate something she could eat."
"I'm really sorry boys, I promise to order something good. I don't want to ruin the night." She half smiled thanking me.
"It's okay Ember, don't feel bad, you can't help it." Luke reassured her, rubbing her arm.
