Jin's eyes opened, everything blurry, and voices tuned out, sounding as if he was underwater. There were strange people standing above him, saying somethings amongst themselves. Jin turned his head to the side, the only thing going through his mind was finding Namjoon.
His eyes drifted closed once more.
•••
He could hear beeping.
It appeared to have a rhythm to it. Jin slowly opened his eyes for a second time. This time he was in a white room, and for some reason wasn't freezing cold or soaked anymore. He glanced to his side, spotting a heart monitor. That was where the beeping was coming from.
There was a blood bag with an IV drip attached to his arm as well, and he looked down to see his leg in a cast. Jin had no idea how long he must have been under for them to do that. Jin reached up and touched a little plastic mask over his mouth and nose, supporting him with air.
He slid it up an off his head, taking in the bland details of the room. He was alone in here. Jin was incredibly confused, how did he get to a hospital? Where had Jungkook and Namjoon been taken? Were they alright?
Jin heard the monitor start beating at a quicker pace, telling him something he already knew.
The door cracked open and Jins attention was drawn to it, assuming it was a nurse coming in to check on him. The figure came in back first, wearing a hospital gown, and then closed the door quietly before turning around.
Namjoons dimples shown brightly as he smiled at Jin.
Jin felt his face immediately lighting up, feeling a lump form in his throat. He was okay. He was here.
Namjoon walked over to Jins bed, pulling up a chair and sitting down, taking Jins hand in both of his and pressing his lips to it in silence. Jin didn't know if he should laugh or cry.
"Do you remember?" He said quietly, and Namjoon looked up from his hand, still holding it within his warm grasp.
"It's hard. I've been told it could take awhile and some memory exercises. " Namjoon smiled slightly, though there was a subtle hint of sadness. Jin returned the smile with one of his own.
Jin had figured this out before, but was now realizing it as truth. Yes, he loved Kim Namjoon. No, nothing would come between that. Jin loved Bangtan, because they were his life. And it was stupid to think he had to give up one to have the other. If Jin just went for it, he could have both. He didn't want to, because he didn't want any rejection from the other members. Or to be treated differently.
But this was something that had to be done, and of course Namjoon had known that long before Jin.
Jin returned to himself, using his free hand to gently touch Namjoons chin, inclining it forwards.
"I'll help you remember. Whatever it takes. " Jin said these words for Namjoon to hear, and Namjoon only.
Jin ignored to discomfort of moving, and softly pressed his lips to Namjoons, feeling the careful response.
Safe. They were safe now.
Namjoon slowly slid his tongue across Jins bottom lip, and his mouth opened in reply and as he did the hospital room door opened.
Out of habit Namjoon had begun to pull away, but this time Jin didn't let him.
"Psh. Effin' knew it. " Yoongi's voice was heard, and then Jin pulled away a little bit. He'd made up his mind, but that didn't mean his face didn't turn pink.
"Yoongi?" Jin questioned. "Where are the others?" He was excited to see all the other members. "And how is Jungkook?"
Yoongi ran a hand through his hair. "The others will be coming up soon. I'm glad you two are okay, but about Jungkook," he took a momentary pause. "I haven't heard anything. He's still in the ER. "
Jin grimaced and looked down to his lap. Jungkook had said he couldn't feel his legs. What if they couldn't fix it? Jungkook was so young, to have something like that taken away from him, just because he had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. The guilt weighed heavily on Jins chest, but from looking at Namjoon, his hand over his mouth, he knew that it must've been ten times worse.
Yoongi frowned, and was silent now. The weight of the Maknaes fate hung heavily above them like a dark cloud.
The silence was broken when the door loudly snapped open and there were shouts of 'Hyungs!' And sniffing.
It was a chaotic mess of hugs from Jimin, Tae and Hobi, all of which still looking pale and clearly still sick. Hobi was trying (and failing) to hold back tears in relief of seeing that the two were alright.
"Have you heard of how Jungkook is?" Namjoon asked the three, seeing if they had been informed.
"Yeah. We were talking to a doctor about that before coming in here. " Jimin spoke up, his voice was silent as he held a sad expression, and Jin thought he saw a tear track down his face. "He said it may be a while longer. "
It all fell into silence once more.
This wasn't the right time to tell them. But it wouldn't have happened if Jin had spoken up when it was the right time. Jin situated his hand into Namjoons, squeezing it slightly.
"This probably isn't a good time to tell you all... But it has to be said. " Jin spoke, and met Namjoons eyes with a little smile. Namjoon seemed entirely surprised. Jin took a breath, trying to calm his racing heart as the sets of eyes expectantly looked to him.
"Namjoon and I... Have been dating for a few months. " Jin couldn't believe all the weight he felt lifted off of his shoulders. The words he hadn't been able to say, now out in the open.
Taehyung screamed and jumped over to hug both of them tightly, Hobi very close behind and joining in on it. Yoongi sighed from the back, and Jimin was laughing gladly, clapping his hands together.
Jimin wiped away his tears with the back of his hand. "Took long enough. "
"When's the wedding?" Hobi said with wide eyes.
"Can I be the flower boy?" Tae had an equally excited expression.
"Wedding? What? No wedding! Not yet!" Namjoon laughed. Jin hovered the back of his hand to his mouth and laughed as well.
"Not yet. " he winked. Tae did a fist pump.
It took a few minutes for the excitement to die down.
To think Jin had worried about telling them. That he had been so narrow as to not see how accepting they would be. Of course. They were always supportive.
For the third time in the past hour the hospital door opened, but this was a doctor, wearing a white coat and holding a clip board. His expression was blank.
"I was told to alert a Min Yoongi about any updates on the Jeon Jungkook case?" He questioned, glancing at everyone in turn.
Yoongi nodded. "That's me. How is he?"
"May we speak in private?" The doctor asked, and Yoongi glanced at everyone for a second. Namjoon nodded and Yoongi followed the doctor out of the room.
Minutes passed.
No one dared speak or move a muscle. Jin could see Jimin from the corner of his eyes, staring at the door with a worried expression.
Finally Yoongi came back in with a grimace. Everyone waited for him to speak.
"They did everything they could, but," Yoongi ran a hand through his hair. "there was too much damage. If they were able to treat it sooner, they could've fixed it. The doctor says.." Yoongi had to pause. "that he's going to be paralyzed from the waist down. "
There was a choking sound and Jin looked over to see Jimin, who was trying his hardest to not cry, but it was impossible. Jimin quickly ran to the door and pushed past Yoongi, running out into the hall.
No one could say anything. But Jin could hear the other silent crying.
