Chapter 1: Fresh Meat

A young girl is crying and mumbling that she needs help, that she needs revenge. A mysterious figure rises from beneath the water in a pond in the woods. It places it hand on the crying girl and tells her it can help her.

As Dakota runs on all fours through the woods, she flashes back to an earlier confrontation with her father in which he threatened her. RJ pleads with her father to spare her since Dakota saved both their lives. She promises she will never see RJ. But Dakota is running to RJ's house for a clandestine make-out session while his parents are away. She hopes her grade 10 year will go better.

At Strathroy Memorial Hospital, Eli is asleep in the waiting area with a large "Get Well" smiley face balloon tied to the chair.

Maria now seems fully recovered and rises from her bed to take a shower. Her father steps out into the hall and finds out from Rebecca (Eli's mother) that Eli has been at the hospital all weekend.

Back at the Thompson's house Dakota's skin walker hearing alerts her to an SUV with squeaky right side brakes. RJ's mother has returned home. Dakota hides on the ledge outside the window. Mrs. Thompson enters RJ's room without knocking. She senses something is up. She checks the closet and then looks out the window to the ledge but Dakota has moved further up the roof.

Maria gets in the shower and a viscous red liquid rising from the clogged drain. Eli tries to buy a Reese's from the machine in the hall but the candy gets stuck. He shakes the machine until it falls over.

The bang from the hall alerts Maria to the filling tub. Once she notices, Maria tries to remove the clog. She pulls up riverbed stones but the reddened water continues to rise. She begins to panic and then a woman's arm reaches from the drain and grabs her. She screams. Her father, Rebecca and Eli all rush to the bathroom. The window is open, the tub is full of clear water and Maria is gone.

Maria starts humming in the woods and it echoes all over Strathroy. Dakota, still hiding on the Thompson's roof, hears the tune and recognizes it as Maria.

A little while later, Detective Thompson takes statements from Eli and his mother. The detective sends Eli home but he has stolen Maria's hospital gown. Dakota and RJ join Eli. RJ says The Shaman will be looking for Maria too. Dakota gets her scent from the gown and uses her enhanced skin walker sense of smell to track her.

In a graveyard, Wong Lee is operating a backhoe to dig Shane's grave. Something moves in the woods and catches his attention. His backhoe is knocked over and he falls into the freshly dug grave with the backhoe blocking the hole. He then sees a fast moving shape fly overhead and, peaking over the lip of the hole sees something tearing into another grave. He then hears a canine whine and deep growl and the backhoe is lifted up off the hole and he sees an old man smiling at him.

Maria's scent brings Dakota, RJ and Eli to the reserve. They don't find Maria but do discover a trip wire which Eli deploys catching Dakota in a snare which leaves her hanging, upside down, in the air. Dakota hears her father and two shaman approach. Eli and RJ hide while Mr. Preston again threatens Dakota hinting that he believes Maria is not human.

The next morning at the Graveyard, Detective Thompson questions Wong and his father about the events of the night before. Wong claims he saw nothing. Wong then tells the detective that someone stole the liver from one of the bodies buried in the graveyard.

Later at school Eli and Dakota try to figure out where Maria might be. Marco arrives and help a homeless guy who is going through the trash buy giving him some money.

In Mr. Happy's English class Eli gets in trouble for talking and lands in detention. Marco begins to shift after becoming stressed in class. He rushes to the bathroom to try to calm down. The old man knocks and then breaks in the stall door. Marco alerts the alpha that he doesn't plan to rejoin his pack. Black fluid starts to leak from Marco's ears and the man says it doesn't look like he has much time left anyway.

In detention, Mr. Happy tells Eli that he will be riding him for the rest of the year because of the way he was treated in the Shane investigation.

At Shane's funeral, Kurt Lockwood (the old man from before) arrives and harasses a student photographer. He introduces himself to RJ as a good friend of Shane's. Dakota and Eli are hiding behind a gravestone watching until they get caught and are placed in the back of a patrol car by Mr. Thompson. They hear scanner traffic about an attack on an ambulance. Something ripped up the patient inside.

Dakota leaves to track Maria's scent but instead finds another werewolf in the woods.

Maria comes walking out of the woods naked and asks for a coat.

The unknown werewolf gets caught in a snare and is hung up by his arms dangling from a tree limb. Dakota goes to help but Dianna stops her and holds her back, ordering Dakota to be quiet. The other werewolves arrive and use a shock stick to force the werewolf into his human form. It is actually the homeless guy from the school earlier, he claims that he has killed no one and that he came to Strathroy looking for peace.

Lockwood explains that this one is an Omega werewolf who was kicked out of a pack. He says he might also be alone by choice. It is not a wise choice according to Lockwood. The older man then shifts in a werewolf and kills the Omega.

Dianna forces Dakota to watch the violence and uses it as an example of why they need to join together to stay safe. Mr. Preston reminds Lockwood that they have an agreement and Lockwood says they're no longer operating by the agreement because of Shane's murder, who was his brother.

Marco is seen in his bedroom still leaking the black liquid from ears and nose.

Wong meets Lockwood in an abandoned train warehouse.
