When I woke up, I felt extremely disoriented. My whole body seemed to be pulsing, and all that I could hear was the sharp and painful beating of my heart. My eyes started to open, little by little, to expose the room to me in a less painful way. I was sitting on a bed, surrounded with warm, soft sheets.
Where am I? I thought to myself. My eyes had fully opened, and I could see that I was in a place much different than before. The walls were made of a smooth and polished wood- maybe mahogany- and there were two large windows that opened up to the outside world...the world that I hadn't seen in seemingly decades.
I tried to sit up, but my body didn't move. Instead, a burning sensation filled my chest, and I started to groan in agony. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approach a large door that led into the room I was being held captive in. The doorknob twisted, and a surge of fresh air fled into the room. I closed my eyes, afraid of what I would see behind the door.
"She's awake!" I heard a woman call, and I felt someone place a hand on my shoulder. I could hear loud clatters of metal to my left, and my curiosity overtook me. I opened my eyes once more, and I nearly jumped with joy when I saw that it wasn't Colcord or his men.
I turned to see that the clatter was of medicinal tools, and there was a woman clothed in a white doctors cloak. She looked very prestigious, her hair was pulled up out of her eyes. When I turned to see who was gripping my shoulder, a deep pain flew through me. I gasped, clutching my side as it throbbed.
"I-is she going to be okay?" A boy's voice echoed through my ears, and it sounded quite familiar. I blinked hard, letting my vision focus again. When I did, I found myself staring into the eyes of Peter, my heart started to race again. I felt my cheeks flush, and Peter squeezed my hand a little.
"Of course she will be okay." The woman in white nodded to him, smiling a little. Then her eyes locked with mine, and she looked shocked, scared even. "Who are you?" She asked me, her eyes now filling with confusion. I took in quaky breaths, hoping to make my heart stop pounding relentlessly in my chest.
"M-mercy." I struggled to make the word come out of my mouth, and my voice was extremely raspy and weak. "Where...where am I?" I asked, my voice gaining strength. "And how long have I been here?"
"You've been out for three days." I could hear Peter's voice now, and I looked towards him. Deep in his mind, I could sense that he was overjoyed to see that I was okay. No one had ever cared about me that much. "This is the school I was telling you about... the one for people like us." His voice was smooth and soft, like chocolate.
"Yeah, Peter would know all about your stay here. He had been staying up late every night to see if you would wake up." She smiled warmly to me, then gave a strange look to Peter; one that I couldn't decipher. I noticed that her eyes were a bright green, like a forest. With sickening speed, I realized that my hair was behind both of my ears. My eye wasn't hidden. I reached up to cover my eye once again, but the woman held my hand back. "Why would you want to hide something like that? It's beautiful." She held my hand for a few seconds, then released. I timidly set my hand back down onto the bed, and I sat up straight.
This feels familiar....have I seen this before? I thought, observing my surroundings again. I noticed that there were many different doctor's tools neatly laid out on some of the counters. There were also some vials of a dark liquid; blood. I jumped a little, then looked to the woman. "I-is that my blood?" I asked, my heart jumping into my throat.
"No need to worry, Mercy. I just had to take a few samples to see what had happened to you." She frowned a little, then looked nervously to the vials.
"Tell me what's wrong." I looked up to her and I met her gaze. She was worried about something, and I wanted to know what was going on. "Please, tell me what's wrong."
