ㄹ/을 뿐만 아니라 eul ppunman anila (as well as)
You can use this grammar pattern to create the meaning of 'not only A, but also B'. Note that the 만 next to 뿐 is optional, but frequently used. The basic conjugation rules are:
1) If there is no 받침 badchim (support)→ Verb + ㄹ 뿐만 아니라
2) If the stem ends with a ㄹ 받침 → Verb + 뿐만 아니라
3) If there is a 받침 at the end of the stem → Verb + 을 뿐만 아니라Example sentences:
그는 가난할 뿐만 아니라 몸도 허약하다.
geuneun gananhal ppunman anila momdo heoyaghada.
He is not only poor but sickly.이 회사는 집을 제공할 뿐만 아니라 차도 제공해요.
i hoesaneun jib-eul jegonghal ppunman anila chado jegonghaeyo.
Not only does this company provide housing, but it also provides a car.음식이 없을 뿐만 아니라 음식을 살 수 있는 돈도 없어요.
eumsig-i eobs-eul ppunman anila eumsig-eul sal su issneun dondo eobs-eoyo.
Not only do we not have any food, but we also don’t have any money to buy food either.Note that If the verb in both clauses is the same, it is common to omit the first verb and attach 뿐만 아니라 ppunman anila (as well as) directly to the noun.
저는 사과뿐만 아니라 바나나도 샀어요.
jeoneun sagwappunman anila bananado sass-eoyo.
I bought not only apples, but bananas too.나는 한국어뿐 아니라 일본어도 할 수 있어요.
naneun hangug-eoppun anila ilbon-eodo hal su iss-eoyo.
I don't just speak Korean, I speak Japanese too.난 소주뿐 아니라 맥주도 못 마셔.
nan sojuppun anila maegjudo mos masyeo.
I can't drink soju or beer.In fact, just using “뿐만 아니라” by itself has the meaning of “not only that, but…”.
