"Lily has a sister."

The words hung in the air. I was stunned. I mustered up all the words that I could.

"H-How?" Was all I could get out.

"I know. It's..... almost impossible. I know you're going crazy right now, so I'll explain all I can. This time I can tell you her name, It's different than with Lily, she's not under state care. It's Kindallyn Rae, But she responds to Kinley, which is most likely what she was called before the orphanage took her in. She is two years old. But here's the catcher. She's in an orphanage in France."

"France?" I say, stunned. How is she possibly in France?

"There is a world wide organization that saves children from being sold, such as into slavery, trafficking, child labor, etc. Kindallyn was rescued by it two weeks ago. She'd been through a lot, and isn't even three. Anything those terrible people could make her do, they did. Her final trade was in France, where an under cover agent claimed that he was going to buy her, but when she was taken to the 'buyer' her seller was arrested and she was placed into an orphanage. They've been trying to track down any living relatives ever since. When we found Lily, and DNA tests were run and placed visible to organizations such as this, they saw striking similarities, and discovered that they are in fact biological sisters. Her caretakers have placed her under your guardianship. Of course, we can change this if you don't want her, but with all sincerity, I think that it would help Lily cope. I'd try to see if she remembers having a sister, or another little girl was ever with her when she was living with her father. Don't specifically say 'sister', she may have been told that she was a cousin or something, and she may have never met her at all."

I sat back, taking it all in. I want to take her, but Lily's needs are prioritized right now. If she doesn't want Kinley to live with us, be her sister again, then she can't.

I adopted Lily, and accepted her needs over all else. Really, this adoption is up to her.

"I want her. But Lily is going to be the decider. She needs to have a say in this." I tell her.

"Of course, Ms. Jacobs. But you'll need a decision quickly. Since you already have guardianship, they want her with you in three weeks. If you decide to take her, you'll need to fly to France to get her and sign the papers. Our session is up, call us when you've made your decision. You have until Tuesday If you want her out of the orphanage and back in Texas by Christmas. I'll talk with you later, and ba-bye, Ms. Jacobs." And with that, the case worker got up and left, clearly stating she'd told me all she knew.

Carla stood up and left, and I followed suit. I went the opposite direction to see Lily just finishing up, still sobbing.

"Oh pea, it's alright, don't cry. I'm here, it's okay." I didn't wait to be waved in to the room. I knew they weren't done yet, but I didn't care. I couldn't just watch her cry like that. I ran in and picked her up. Karen scowled at me.

"We weren't done, Ms. Jacobs. Now we'll have to start all over again." Karen glared.

"Well, you aren't going to. I have some business to discuss with my daughter, and you obviously haven't gotten anywhere with her. Goodbye, Karen." and with that, I whisked Lily  through the door and into the hallway.

"She yelled at me and she touched my arm, Ms. Em-ly!" Lily whispered through her cries.

That upset me, I was told Karen had much experience with children in these situations, and also that she was going to take things slow with my Lily.

"It's okay, pea, mama's gonna make it better. I'll make sure you never see her for your therapy again, baby girl." Gently pressing her head into the side of my neck.
