                                                               One Week later
*Emily's Pov*
I'm sitting on my back deck, enjoying a cup of morning hot tea.

I giggled at the sight of Minnie and Moe, my dogs, as they tumbled over themselves, letting off some of their energy.

"Mimi, Mozer!" I called, ready to go back in as I heard my phone ring.

The dogs bounded up the steps and through the open door. Closing it behind me, I grabbed my phone and checked caller ID.

I almost dropped it.

The call was from my adoption agency. I've been waiting since I was 19, 3 years ago, since I'd become obsessed with adopting a child. Could there be a child for me?

"Hello?" I answered shakily.

"Hi Emily! I have wonderful news! Well, for you that is. A week ago, a five year old girl was found in an attic. There were signs of abuse all over her. She has no family that we can track down. She's going to be put in foster care if you can't take her. Can we set up a meeting? Soon? We need to get this adoption in motion if you want her. I know it's a little short notice, but I thought hat you would be most willing out of everything. So? What do say? Can we set up a meeting?"

I took a breath. I couldn't believe it. I might get a little girl.

"Oh my gosh, of course! Can we meet in a couple of hours?" I replied, astonished at what was about to happen.

"Sure! 11:00 at Karen Montgomery Children's Hospital?" The agent asked.

"See you there!"

"Alright, it's set then! Ba-bye!" The other end cut off. I cannot believe what I just heard. I have to call my family.

Two hours later, I was pulling into he hospital parking lot.

I took a deep breath, stepped out of the car, and clicked the lock.

I took the elevator to the fifth floor, and then walked into board room 5c, where my agent Carla had texted me to go to.

"Hi!" Carla said from across a giant table, though we were the only ones to sit at it.

"Hi!" I shook her extended hand and sat down in the seat across from her.

"Alright. Let's go ahead and dive right in. First off, you'll only have a week to prepare, and this little girl has nothing. Are you okay with that? It's going to be one of our fastest adoption processes in history." She told me.

"I'll do whatever it takes, Carla." I replied. I wanted this little girl.

"Okay, well, it gets tougher. She been diagnosed with a couple of mental disorders, but don't worry, they're very easily treatable, and most people don't even realize that they fall under the category. She has post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, along with an anxiety disorder. The PTSD should pretty much fade away after a while, and the anxiety is very easily controlled with medication. This will make it harder than raising a child without these disorders. What's your verdict now? I know that this turns many people away from her."

I was a little shocked at the news. It made my heart hurt for the girl. She was so little, and had such big problems.

I took a moment to think, but I didn't really have to. God was telling me that this girl was meant to be my child.

"I think I can do it." I said firmly, causing Carla to smile.

"That's wonderful! Now, are you ready to hear her history? It's a really heartbreaking story."
