"Good Lord, these things are death traps." Violet said as she gripped Liam's hand tighter while stepping onto the ice in her skates.
They were at an arena downtown, one that Liam's father used to take him to fairly often. There weren't that many people there at present, and Liam was glad; this way Violet wouldn't feel overwhelmed.
He laughed and helped steady her once both of her skates were planted on the ice. "You're fine, see?"
"For now..." She mumbled. Violet did have to admit that Liam's presence made her more confident in her skating abilities.
"Let's have a go at it, yeah?" Liam said, not realizing his statement could be taken out of context. "I mean-"
Violet laughed. "I know what you meant." She assured him, giving his hand a squeeze and saving him from embarrassment.
Liam shook his head at his own mindlessness and pulled her along with him to begin skating.
"So how are your other classes going?" He asked, wanting to get her talk.
"They're going well." Violet nodded. "Yours?"
"Well." He agreed.
They were both quiet as they continued skating, neither one of them knowing what to say to the other. Violet stole a glance at Liam while his eyes were trained ahead of them. His nose and cheeks were rosy, the cold air nipping at his skin. She bet he still felt warm, though. She was sure her own cheeks and nose were the same shade of pink, she could feel the cold air against her skin.
Liam looked back and caught her gaze. She laughed quietly and turned her head away, embarrassed that she had been caught admiring. She just couldn't help it though; Liam was probably the most handsome boy she had ever laid eyes on. He seemed to be such an open book, and that intrigued her. Violet reckoned she had never really gotten to know someone. She was glad Liam would be her first.
Not like that! Not her first! Oh god, now she was imagining it in that context. No, no, no.... Bad thoughts, very bad thoughts that an innocent girl such as herself should not be having.
Violet was actually shocked at herself. She was contemplating sex! Who was she? Because she certainly wasn't thinking like Violet.
Though... She didn't mind. Which was weird, because Violet wasn't one for change. Could one person be the reason for her sudden courage? She doubted it. Maybe she was just having a coming-of-age sort of thing. That was fairly likely. After all, she knew other girls her age would likely only be thinking of sex while out with a boy this handsome.
At that thought, she looked up at Liam once again. Just by looking at her, Liam could tell she was in thought. He wished he could know what she was thinking about. Instead, he was left in the dark.
"Wanna have a go at racing?" Liam asked with a smirk as he pulled Violet from her thoughts.
"Depends, wanna have a go at getting beat by a girl?" Violet countered playfully.
"This coming from the same girl who nearly tore my hand off from nervousness coming onto the rink." Liam snickered and Violet shoved his shoulder. His balance was compromised and his arms flailed before he felt his bum hit the ice.
Violet gasped and her hands flew to her mouth, covering half her face with her mittens. Her face was flushed and Liam knew she was holding back her laughter.
"Go ahead," Liam sighed, slowly getting up and wiping the back of his jeans. "Laugh at me, you've got thirty seconds."
Violet burst out laughing, letting her hands drop from her face and slap her legs. "Just-just the way your arms were flailing..." She breathed out in between laughs. Liam couldn't help but laugh with her; she looked lovely with her pink cheeks and big smile gracing her face. Her fringe was out of place and he bet she would shake it out back into place any moment.
