More weeks passed by, and Violet was quickly realizing time went a lot faster when you were actually happy with your life. She had never been as happy in her entire life as she was lately with Liam. The relationship between the two of them was simple; they took late night walks hand-in-hand, they stopped by the bakery after literature, they took turns watching movies in each other's dorms, and everything between them just seemed to flow.

Violet couldn't figure out what it was about Liam - why he had managed to capture her attention and for the first time in her life, make her want to open up to someone. Maybe it was his voice that sounded like honey when he talked, or the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, or how she could practically feel warmth radiating off him. But he was different.

It was similar for Liam, too. Though he had experience with girls, none of them had been like Violet. She was so beautiful, but in the most subtle way, with her glasses and fringe and worn out boots. She was classic in its truest form; from the music she liked to the movies she watched to the way she blushed when Liam looked at her for more than three seconds.

He wasn't sure exactly how Violet had captured him, but he almost didn't wish to know. It didn't matter to him, really. It didn't matter how she captured him, just that she did. And for the first time in a long time, Liam liked his life.

The Christmas holidays had passed and Violet had visited with her father, brother and his fiancée.

"The wedding is coming up soon," Mark had reminded her. "February twenty-second."

"Right, I knew that." Violet had responded, even though she actually hadn't known.

"Are you using your plus one?"

Her brother's question had caused her to bit her lip. "I think so..." Violet had answered cautiously. She had an idea of who she wanted to bring.

Mark had raised his eyebrows at his little sister, wondering who she could possibly be bringing. He knew just as well as anyone that Violet wasn't exactly a people person.

Nonetheless, Violet had managed to squeak through Christmas and New Year's just the same as she did every year before that. Liam told her about how nice it was to see his family and some of what they were like. Violet smiled at the thought of Liam sat in between his parents, his signature smile plastered across his lips as he sat with the people he loved the most.

Violet had yet to mention her brother’s upcoming wedding to Liam, and she thought of that as she laid tummy-down on her bed, chewing on her pen while trying to finish off a paper for criminology.

"You nearly finished the paper?" Elizabeth piped up from her bed, causing Violet to drop her pen in surprise.

"Not quite." Violet replied with a sigh and picked her pen up. "I actually think I'm going to take a walk."

"Alright." Elizabeth smiled at her roommate as she stood and put her jacket on.

Violet put her earphones in before she crossed her arms over her chest to keep whatever warmth she had in her jacket. It was around seven now, and it was a bit dark out.

The streets were quiet and the dim lights shone down on the damp sidewalks. The wind was cold but the music playing into her ears distracted her from it. Once every few minutes a car drove by, but besides that it was mostly just Violet and her thoughts.

Sometimes she could just feel things piling on her, getting bigger and bigger even though they really weren't a serious problem. Before, she didn't know how to deal with the stress, so instead she would just push it away and pretend it wasn't there. Violet realized that wasn't such a good strategy; things only piled up more.
