You stared at the clock, waiting for your shift to end. Thirty minutes till you could go home and go to bed, getting some much needed sleep. You walked over to the cages, feeding the animals one last time and giving them a little attention before closing the shop. You were really good with animals, you had been from an early age. Being sheltered most of your life, you were much better with animals than socializing with humans like yourself. That's why you were quick to take this job. You got to take care of the creatures you love the most and get paid for it! Although, the long hours you had been working lately had begun to make your restless. You grabbed the keys and were about to lock up when you heard the door ding. You looked up to see a familiar guy carrying a white snake in a cage.
He would occasionally catch a stray animal and bring it in the shop. Today it seemed he brought something out of the ordinary. He set the cage on the counter and waited for you to make your way over. You got behind the desk and smiled politely, looking down at the snake who seemed to stare back.
"I was in my backyard when this little critter came slithering by. He seems to be pretty tame and relaxed." He said. He pulled the snake out of the cage. "See, I think he'd make a good pet."
He moved closer for you to pick up the snake and you did. It crawled onto your arm and seemed to stare at you in curiosity. Some people would be scared of holding a snake, especially a snake that someone just brought in, but you had grown used to this by now. You had worked here for a few years and cats, dogs, birds, snakes, insects- they had became the norm for you.
"He does seem friendly. I'll have to have the vet check him out, but if everything goes good." You say looking down at the snake. "This little fella might have a new home very soon."
(Thirty Minute Time Skip)
Your shift ended and you flipped the sign to closed. You walked over to the pale snakes cage and watched him. He stared back at you, watching you with what seemed like curiosity.
"I have to go home now, but I'll be back in the morning."
You walked over to the door and locked it.
"Good night."
You closed the door behind you and began making your way home. You reached your door and were about to reach towards the handle when you heard rustling from beside you. You turned to your left to see the pale snake, looking at the door than you.
"How did you get out of your cage little one? Well, I have a cage I can keep you in over night."
You reached down and the snake happily crawled onto your arm and your brought him inside, closing the door behind you. You brought him to the cage and he hesitantly crawled into it. You put the top on it and locked it. You closed the door and began making your way down to your room. You crawled into your bed, but after such a long day it felt like a cloud. It didn't take long for you to fall fast asleep. Unknown to you, the snake had managed to get out of the cage and change into it's human-like form. He looked around before making his way down to your bedroom. He popped his head in through the door every to slightly, looking to see if you were awake. He quietly made his way into your room and looked at your sleeping form, a smile spreading on his face. He moved his hand to your face and gently stroked your cheek. You stirred, but didn't wake up. He crawled under the covers, wrapping his arms around your frame, letting out a happily sigh.
