'Northwest Medical Centre, go on the third floor and ask for Aspen Watts. Xx – M'

This is the third time I have re-read this text to make sure I'm reading it right and not going insane, I shove my phone into my back pocket. I get the twin's pram out of the boot as I can hear Tyler's excruciating cry from inside the car. I wish I didn't have to drag three kids along with me, however its better bringing them with me then not going at all.

I unbuckle Louis and Ivy and put them in the pram, I then pick up Tyler and balance him on my hip as he starts to calm down. As I hold Tyler I try to push the pram which is quite a struggle since Tyler won't stop squirming and the twins aren't as light as they used to be. I'm barely three metres away from the car and Tyler decides to absolutely crack it. He starts kicking around, crying and screaming. I can see a woman looking at me disapprovingly as I try to continue pushing the pram, I can't waste any more time I need to go see my friends.
"Need some help? Looks like you're struggling a bit."

No, it couldn't be. Brandon?

My eyes meet up with his familiar deep blue eyes. I'm shocked for a second and without evening thinking words escape my mouth.
"Yep three kids, who wouldn't need help," I say nervously and he laughs. He grabs the pram and pushes towards the lift with me.
"You are going to the lift right?" I nod not being able to say anything else. When the lift opens we both step in and lean in to the buttons to push on the same button.
"Sorry." I say quietly stepping back cradling Tyler in the corner.
"It's okay."

It hurts me a little that he doesn't recognise me. Even though it feels like it's been forever since we have seen each other, it still hurts I don't know how you can forget your first love. I stand there awkwardly trying to distract myself with the squirming baby in my arms. Once the lift opens I rush out pulling the pram with me not bothering with his help. I go up to the reception as quick as I can.
"Hi, I need to see Aspen Watts. Where is she?" I ask anxiously.
"I'm sorry honey, but she's not allowed visitors at the moment. You can wait in the waiting room though I think your other friends are waiting there." The receptionist says sweetly pointing me in the direction of the waiting room. As I push the pram slowly I can see Mason sipping on a coffee and Sydney with her head in her hands. I speed up as I make eye contact with Mason.
"Thank god you're here."
"What happened? Is Aspen okay?"
"She was in a car crash, but the nurses say she will be okay." My heartbeat quickens with the anxiety rushing through my body, but I know I can't let it take over me.
"Syd? Are you okay?" I say quickly before handing Mason Tyler and Engulfing Sydney in a hug, she cries into my shoulder as I rub her back softly.
"Oh Sydney you have got to have a look at this Idiot." I say as I can see Mason holding Tyler very awkwardly over her shoulder. We break away from the hug and Sydney giggles as she sees Mason's odd way of holding a baby.
"Have you never held a baby before?" I ask him quickly before taking the baby off him.
"Hey couldn't you tell we were having wonderful bonding time." He jokes.
"Yeah I could really tell." I laugh, Tyler just sits in my lap whilst playing with his socks.
"He's pretty cute." Sydney comments, her voice weak from her crying.
"Yeah these are my brother's three kids. I'm sorry I brought them I had no choice." I apologise realising bringing three children under the age of the three to see my injured friend is probably not a good idea.
"Oh it's okay. Cute babies are actually very good distractions." Sydney says letting Tyler hold onto her finger.
"Yeah they always make me feel better." I smile looking at Tyler's happy face.
"So what are their names and how old are they?" Mason asks.
"So the twins are Louis and Ivy and they are two and a half and little Tyler here is six months old." I point out the sleeping twins to them.
"Cute." Mason comments. We all just sit there in silence as Sydney plays with Tyler.

"Sydney Varaquez?" A doctor calls out, Sydney immediately runs over to the doctor and they walk off into what I assume is Aspen's room.
"I hope Aspen is okay." I say looking at Mason.
"Yeah me to. You just never think that these sort of things would happen to someone you actually know." He sighs looking towards the ground.
"What happened exactly?"
"Aspen was just driving to work and suddenly a car slammed into her and she ended up sliding off the road into a pole." He explains quickly not wanting to talk about it for too long.
"Oh my god. She could have died." Tears start to well up in my eyes just thinking about it.
"She could have but she hasn't she's strong." He grabs my hand and intertwines out finger, he places a soft kiss on my temples and I lean into him his warmth comforting me.
"Ew blegh" Tyler babbles as he sits on the odd angle in my lap.
"What a funny little man." Mason whispers and I giggle as Tyler continues to babble

"You know what Mason?"
"What?"
"I really like you."
"Oh thank god cause if you didn't this would be awkward."

We just sit there together trying to forget about the fact we are in a hospital waiting room, I'm just hoping everything is okay, even though anxiety is pumping through my body like my blood is. For once though my mind seems to drift off to a happier less anxious place as Mason holds my hand and Tyler bounces around on my lap. For once I'm not letting the anxiety take over my body.

"Riley?" Well I guess he hasn't forgotten what I look like.
