In my dream, it was very dark, and what dim light there was seemed to be radiating off of Edward's skin. I couldn't really see his face, only his back. He was walking away from me. No matter how fast I ran, I could never catch up to him. No matter how loud I called his name he never turned around. His figure left me in complete darkness. I woke up flustered by the severity of the dream.

The month that followed the accident wasn't an easy one.

I always seemed to be the center of attention. Tyler Crowley was impossible to escape. He walked me to all my classes and even made himself a seat at my lunch table.

No one ever seemed to bother Edward the way they bothered me, despite me trying to give him most of the credit for saving my life. Most people just say that they didn't even notice him next to me. Absolutely no one tried to question me about him. They just all took my word for it. I realize now that it was probably because I pay more attention to Edward than anyone else in the school. I would never admit that out loud, but it was indisputable.

Despite me watching his every move, he seemed just fine with having no dealings with me at all. He completely ignored me in Biology. I still haven't received an explanation, and I've come to accept that I probably never will. My anger and disbelief have turned to admiration and gratitude, but again I would never admit that out loud either.

I even tried speaking to him once. "Hello, Edward," I smiled as possible trying to show that I had no hint of anger left. All he did in response was nod and turn his head as if I had never said anything at all. How rude. The more he ignored me, the more my dreams continued. There was a direct correlation to all these events and my happiness. I was considerably more quiet and reserved after everything happened. When people seemed to take notice and ask what was wrong I never knew what to say. So I would just make up some on the nose excuse for my behavior.

One person who didn't mind the drift between Edward and me, was Mike. He got a little bolder the more time went on. He would stand in front of my desk trying to hold a conversation before the bell rang. We would completely ignore Edward and he did just the same. Jessica had asked me if I minded her asking Mike out to the girl's choice dance. I obviously told her I didn't mind at all.

In class the next day Mike was doing the usual, standing trying to hold conversation.

"So, Jessica asked me to the spring dance," he informed me.

"That's great," I said maybe a little too excitedly.

"I told her I had to think about it," he added.

"Now what would you go and do that for?" I asked already knowing the answer to my question.

"Well...I was wondering if you were going to ask me," he stated.

"I...uh didn't plan on it exactly. You should tell her yes." I was trying to be cool about the awkward situation.

"Why not?" Mike demanded.

"I'm going to Seattle," I lied simply.

"You can't go another weekend?" he asked.

"Do you have 'go another weekend' gas money?" I blurted without thinking. It sounded a lot like something my mom would say. Edward let out a laugh which he quickly covered with a cough.

"Don't make Jess wait any longer. She's a gorgeous girl and you're being rude." I scolded him.

"You're right," he said then sulked to his seat.

As class continued I could feel Edward staring a hole into the side of my face. I sighed a little too loud as a subtle way to tell him to knock it off.
