I told Charlie that I had a lot of homework and that I wasn't hungry. There was a basketball game on and he didn't really seem like he was bothered much by me wanting to be alone. When I went into my room, I locked the door and turned on some music to fill the silence. It wasn't soon after, that I found myself drifting off to sleep.

Jacob Black and I were in the forest. I could feel him tugging on my shirt pulling me in the opposite direction of the beach.

"Bella! Come on," he said urgently. But I yet to move. Instead, I searched for the source of the commotion. Jacob was still pulling me towards the forest. Suddenly, Mike was there telling me to follow him instead.

"Bella! Over here quickly."

"Why?" I asked still dumbfounded by what had them so distraught.

Just as Mike had appeared so did Edward. His skin had a light glow to it which was weird, but he looked like his usual self. He gestured for me to come towards and I took a hesitant step forward.

"Trust me," he cooed. His teeth were not normal. They were sharp and animalistic. I didn't move. The sight of it all froze me in place. I was about to turn back to Jacob, but he wasn't there anymore. In his place sat a huge brown wolf with bared teeth. "Oh hell no." I thought to myself trying to make sense of it. Jacob turned into a wolf and Edward was a vampire, no way in hell could move. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Edward still had his hand out towards me, and I took another step towards him. My logic being that he still looked remotely human and I couldn't say the same for Jacob. Before I could move again, Jacob lunged towards Edward.

"No!"

I woke up in a cold sweat trying to make sense of my bizarre dream. "That stupid ass story," I said out loud as I wiped my forehead. I looked around my room to find my iTunes was still playing and my light was still on. The music wasn't loud and the light didn't bother me so I turned over and drifted back to sleep. Or at least I tried to go back to sleep. My mind was still racing trying to decipher the true meaning of my dream, or should I say nightmare.

Soon after realizing that going back to sleep was impossible, I decided to take a shower. When I got out, I couldn't put it off anymore.

I sat in front of my desktop staring at the Google home screen. Where do I even begin to look? I started simply by entering one word, 'vampire'. The first website to catch my eye was Vampires A-Z. It had such a thorough sounding name, how could I not go to it? The site was alphabetized by different myths from around the world. Most of them came to the same conclusion. Vampires were strong creatures that used their beauty to pull people in and drink them dry of their blood. That sounds delightful. Not! It's all entertaining to read, but to really try to imagine any of it being real, it would destroy my sense of reality.

For something like vampires to be real, would add a whole other complicated layer to the world. For a girl like me, a girl who can barely decide what she wants to do after high school, that would make me feel even more helpless. In a world where vampires and werewolves exist, what could I possibly do that would have even a fraction of meaning? I sighed while feeling myself spiral into my hypothetical pit of despair.

I was overthinking all of this. It's not like it's real anyway. That's what I had to keep telling myself. However, I couldn't just keep ignoring the fact that Edward met all the requirements of being a vampire. In fact, he came just short of me seeing him bite someone's neck. Let's not even began on werewolves. Humans, that turn into giant wolves? Jacob told the story as if there were people who believed that it held some sort of truth. Certainly, he didn't believe in any of it, or did he?

When I came downstairs Charlie was finishing breakfast. I sat the table just as my stomach growled. I gratefully took the plate of eggs from him.

"Nice weather today," he noted. Instinctively I turned towards the window and smiled.

"The sun's out," I commented. He nodded and returned the smile.

When I entered school, my mood was very chipper. I may or may not have been excited to see Edward.

"Hey, Bella," Mike said to me easily as I walked to class.

"Hey, Mike."

"You look happy today," he noted.

"Because I am," I said with a smile.

"Did you finish that essay. Its due Thursday."

"Wednesday, actually," I corrected.

"Oh, I was going to ask you out tonight, but I actually need to work on that then." I tried not to think about how he assumed that I would just say yes to him.

"Well..." he continued. "I guess I could just take you out some other time." The way he said it really wasn't a question. His confidence was a little overwhelming. "Mike how come you just assume that I would agree to go out with you?" I asked.

"Well, why wouldn't you?"

"Because Jessica likes you and I don't feel that way about you." I was trying to put a definite end to his constant advances towards me.

"Okay, I understand." Despite the blow, I'd just given to his confidence he smiled and continued with normal conversation.

As I crossed the thresh hold into that cafeteria, I immediately looked over to find the Cullen's table empty. There was this sense of dread that fell upon me thinking about how I'd have to sit in Biology alone.

The rest of the lunch was boring. The last hope I had withered away when I entered Biology to see that Edward still didn't show. My day finished off on a rather boring note.

"Dad?" I called went I walked through the front door.

"In here," he called from the kitchen. "Foods almost ready," he added.

"Cool." I trailed off. He looked at me expectantly and chuckled. "What is it, Bella?"

"I wanted to know if it would be okay to go to Port Angeles tomorrow to look for dresses to the spring dance."

"I thought you weren't going."

"I'm not. I'm just lending girl support." I said with a laugh.

"I don't see why not. Have fun."

"You'll be okay for dinner, right?"

He laughed loudly and said, "I did manage to feed myself for seventeen years before you got here."

"Dad, steak, hot wings, and beer do not count."

"It's food. Sure, they do."

Right after school the next day Angela, Jessica, and I left for Port Angeles. We would get there in no time since Jessica drove like a madwoman.
