Fear

"What now?" She whispered to me. I shrugged, then motioned for her to walk forward, following the others who had been called.

"Go, I'll meet you by the forest's entrance after whatever they force you to do, okay?" She nodded. Then went up with the other two who had been chosen.

I was constantly asking myself, why her? I sat down to eat, yet I just couldn't bring myself to it. I felt sick just looking at the food in front of me.

I stood up, walking myself out of the dining hall. I was in the garden area, near the lake.

I sighed, seeing my breath fly into the air. "How can I protect her when she's risking her life for our school. I shouldn't have come here. She and I should have stayed at Hogwarts, where at least then I could know she'd be safe," a tear fell into the water, ripples cascading across the water. One small drop cause a large commotion, until stopping, abruptly.

I was afraid, terrified. My thoughts could only think of how I may lose her. The only person I could open up to without breaking down on the inside. The only thing that wasn't an animal could be stolen from me in the dangerous task soon to come.

I wiped my eyes with my sleeve, composing myself.

Suddenly, I felt a cold hand on my bare shoulder. I turned my body to face the person before me.

"Don't be afraid," she spoke. "I swear I'll be safe, for you." Her smile caused the corners of my mouth to form into a smile. "I've got you, and you will be the reason I'll win! Plus, with you by my side, I know I'll be safe. You've had my back since the day we met."

"But what if I can't save you this time. I won't be able to jump into the arena just to save you," my voice was raising, tears fell harshly onto the ground.

A single tear fell from her eyes, and onto her lip, "Don't worry, Newt. I promise, for you, I won't let myself get harmed."

"Swear?"

"Always-"

"-Prove it," my voice was shaky, yet my eyes stayed locked onto hers.

"Fine," she was calm, yet fear peeked through her voice, and rested in her eyes. Her face came close to mine, until I felt warm lips on mine.

I felt warm, safe. With her, I knew nothing would happen. Her warmth embraced me, as I slipped out of the cold darkness that held me before.
