"Welcome, children. Please, give us your bags." Was the simple instruction given to us by the headmaster, "Now, we shall give you a new bag. Did you think we would leave you a whole month to figure out your plant and what this task may be?" Laugher filled the room. I; however, did not find it funny. All my studying, for nothing. I let out a frustrated sigh, "Do you have something you wish to share miss?"
"I was able to identify the plant after long hours of reading so I'm a bit ticked off, understandable right?"
"I guess. Anyways, in this challenge we will be giving you a plant that you must eat, identify, and create a potion to reduce the effects of. The plants will not be magical, instead they are from the muggle world. Please, step up and take a plant. You have a minute to study it before you must ingest it. Best of luck!" One by one we got our plants, and in my hand, I took in everything I could about the plant.
In my hand we're bean-like capsules that had seeds suspended from it. We were given our minute to study the plant, then eat it. I ate mine, wanting to puke after. I gagged, my stomach clearly not happy with what I had been forced to digest. "We have the antidote here with us if you are unable to succeed. You have one hour, beginning, now!"
I kept staring at the beans and tried my hardest to remember where I had seen them before. One year, my parents took me to France and these beans hung from the garden that the neighbors had, as we were renting a home to stay at.
Thanks to my curiosity I went over and picked a few. Stupid at the time, but I'm now glad that my stupidity has gotten me somewhere. The groundskeeper had found me picking the seeds and yelled from across the gardens.
He explained to me that theses were poisonous and used to keep animals out by causing them to go into a coma, and if to many are eaten, it may even be fatal. I laughed nervously as I had bitten and swallowed one just before he caught me.
I started to realise what I needed. The gardener made a remedy and I watched the entire time, so I knew what was necessary for making a cure.
My apifiny was noticed by the crowd who watched intensly. I gathered all the materials I remembered and started brewing. Within 10 minutes, I was the first to finish. The headmaster checked my cure and gave me a 'good job' as I was correct. I drank it, nearly puking from the taste.
I may have been the first to finish but it was simply dumb luck. The other two struggled to figure out what these poisons were. One was a berry and the victor said it was sweet. That was as far as his knowledge went.
The last victor was only a minute behind me. His mother was a muggle gardener so he knew what his was, yet he took more time to remember the cure. I snickered.
The victor with the berry ended up needing to be taken to the hospital wing, but I was fine, other than the minor stomachache. I really needed some good food.
A/n: My grandfather has surgery this Tuesday. Im worried but I know he will be in good hands. I get to see him today so I'm excited. Oh, and Happy Easter!
Sorry it's short, I don't like this task much but there are many more to come~
