Amane's POV
Mattini arrived shortly after we went out of the weapons room.
"What did both of you do in here?" She asked us. My cheeks turned red. I knew she was asking without any malice, but I can't help think it had some malice, knowing Drift and I are the only ones in the library.
"Some chitchatting Matt." Drift says, chuckling.
"And there I thought you were going to get some books." She furrowed her brows, looking at me.
"I wanted to, but I had to ask him some questions." I say defensively. Her features softened.
"Well, you can ask from any of us. Especially Gabby. She's very kind and smart. Literally knows everything." She says. Maybe I should go see Gabby.
"I'll probably do that later." I say.
We reached the dining hall. It was bustling with people, Nephilim. Most of them grabbing sandwiches, plates and food. Some of them eyed us, Me, curiously.
"Um, is it always this busy here?" I ask them quietly. Drift answers my question. He looks confused as I am.
"No, something must have happened." He says. Mattini looks nervous.
"Jake!" Mattini called and a boy, about our age or their age, went to our direction.
"Matt." He smiles at her, full of love. Jake must be Mattini's love.
"What's up with everybody? Is there an...?" She asks, hesitating to finish her words.
"Demons. Their energy high in a neighborhood. The neighborhood is full of dead bodies." He explains. Drift paled. Mattini's shocked.
"I'll go with you!" Mattini announced. Jake frowned at her.
"No, stay here with Drift and the new girl. It's safer here."
"We'll go." Drift said. Jake rolled his eyes.
"I'll-" Before I was able to finish my words, Drift cut me off.
"Stay here." He said with finality.
"What? I wanna go!" I argued. He crossed his arms.
"It's not safe. Okay? Stay here. Who knows, demons must be the reason why you don't remember anything, and with that, they maybe, well... Interested in you?" He says. I paled. My insides went cold.
"Just... Stay here. Okay? Go to Gabby. You might want to talk to her." He dismisses me. Jake eyed me curiously. Mattini's smiling at me.
"Your eyes are... Cool." Jake comments. Wow, what's the big deal with my eyes.
"Gabby's room is upstairs. The room nearest to the stairs. Okay?" Mattini says. Guess I have no choice but stay here. Where they say I'll be safe.
"Okay." I started to walk away from them. I heard their footsteps, getting faint as I head toward the stairs.
***
I find myself lost in the corridor. Mattini said her room was the nearest to the stairs, but the room nearest to stairs was full of boxes.
When I was about to go downstairs to head for the library, now I can't find the stairs.
What the hell.
The more I walk, the more I get lost. It's making me feel dizzy.
I eventually give up and sink down on my knees. My head's throbbing like crazy.
