Drift's POV

I woke up to someone shaking my shoulders. Gabby.

"Gabby, what's up?" I ask her, yawning. I wasn't able to sleep much, the mat given to us was not very comfortable.

"I need to talk to you about... Amane." She says, dropping her voice. She glanced at Amane sleeping soundly beside me. Duvet covering her body, her face pale.

Gabby led me outside the evacuation room. She was fidgeting and really upset about something.

"The Starshots are missing." she starts. I paled. Oh no, not the starshots.

"Demons." I say. She nods.

"Who else would it be? It was a demon who created it in the first place. It's not surprising me that they would steal it." She nods. But it got me confused. If demons were the ones who stole the starshots, how the hell were they able to enter the holy grounds?

"I was wondering and puzzled too, Drift. I don't know how those idiots were able to pull it off." She says, obviously agitated. She furrows her brows.

"What if it isn't demons who stole it? What if..." I hesitate to continue. She looks at me with disbelief.

"What if it's one of us, you say?" She asks. She sounds upset. Really, really upset.

"Yeah. I mean, it's impossible that demons are able to enter this camp..." I say.

"I don't know, Drift. This is out of hand. I can't think straight, the starshots are missing, the Grimoire of Angels lost, and there's Amane!" Her voice rises to a shout, surprising me. She rarely shouts. Gabby is the calmest of all.

Wait, what? The Grimoire is stolen as well?

"Yes, it's missing as well. That made me even more confused. It's an angel spell book, what would demons want from it? It's for angels, not demons." She emphasizes.

"That only proves my point, Gabby." I say. But she refuses to listen.

"The angels are loyal, Drift." She points out.

"What about the Nephilim then, Gabby? How can you guarantee that all of us are loyal?"

"This is not the time to question loyalty, Drift!" She's mad. Fuming mad. "I sense a war coming up. The angels against the demons again. I can't question the loyalty of the Nephilim this time, not now, not ever, Drift." She says with finality. It's not up to an argument when she's saying it like that.

I nod quietly. Her features soften.

"Then there's Amane." She continues.

"What's with Amane?" I ask. Amane seems to be normal. A lost girl with no memories to reflect in. No memories to remember.

"She got lost finding my room." She says. She's upset because Amane got lost finding her room?

And it sinks in. Oh.

"You put a spell in that corridor." I say. She nods.

"And the spell worked on her. I found her lying in the middle of the corridor."

Amane's POV

I woke up from a dream where the demon, the boy, is showing up. In that dream, he was actually a kid. And I was actually close to him. Like he's almost my brother.

I shuddered. What the hell is he doing in my dream?

I don't find Drift nor Gabby around the room. I have to tell him something.

The clock says it's 11 in the morning. My stomach rumbles, asking for food.

I head toward the dining hall and see Drift and Gabby huddled on a corner, talking with hushed voices.

Gabby sees me looking at them and smiles at me. She's almost back to herself, if she just didn't look pale.

Drift turns toward my direction and smiles. His smile was... Different.

I walk toward them and greeted them good morning.

"Heading for breakfast?" Gabby asks me, her smile comforting.

"Yeah, it's a bit... Late." I say.

"I was going for breakfast too." Drift says. He excuses both of us from Gabby and heads down the dining hall.

He's unusually quiet. I mean he's quiet when I don't ask him questions, but this kind of quiet is unnerving me.

"I have to tell you something." I tell him quietly. He looked surprised I actually broke the ice.

We reach the dining hall, and it's not surprising that we're the only ones here.

"Well... I got a question." I say. He chuckles.

"You said you have to tell me something and you're saying you have a question?" He smiles. Now that's the Drift I talked to in the library.

"Well, it got me curious why you suggested my name to be Amane." I say. And I wonder how the demon called me A. How the hell does he know my name?

"You look like the anime Amane. She's got long hair and features like yours except her hair's red and yours is black." He says. He emphasizes that my hair's black. Unlike everyone else' hair which are blond, red and brown.

I quietly nod. He must have sensed what I was thinking, because he defensively explained.

"Hey I didn't mean you are a d-... I mean different, it's just that you literally are different. I mean... Oh God, do you get me? What I'm trying to say is that, you are unique. Maybe special." His words left me speechless. He called me special.

Mattini and Jake arrived shortly after our moment. The lovebirds were smiling at each other like crazy.

"Well, the lovebirds are here." Drift says, waving at them.

"Hey Amane." Mattini waves at me. I smile.

"Are they married?" I ask Drift out of curiosity. He smiles at me.

"No, they're soulmates." He emphasizes soulmates.

"What are soulmates?" Souls that are... Mates?

"Yeah. Two souls destined for each other." He says, sensing my thoughts.

"How about you? Have you found your soulmate?" I ask him. He eyes me.

"Yeah, I found her."
