Amane's POV
Drift entered the training room, his eyes avoiding mine. He looked quite different. He didn't smile at me, his face was emotionless. Gabby's palm healed quickly, to my surprise.
He must've noticed Gabby's demeanor because his brows scrunched and he focused on her.
"You okay, Gabby?" He asked, not minding me. Okay am I invisible? Hello, I'm here!
He eyed me, quickly looking away. His eyes widened, since it landed on the weapon I made. He stared at Gabby, deliberately avoiding my direction.
"How the hell did that come back here? Did he appear again? Is that why you look bewildered? Why are we not informed? Oh God did he hurt you? Did he-"
"Amane did that." Gabby cut him off, leaving him stunned. His eyes turned to my direction, eyeing me with disbelief. I willed my face to leave no hint of emotion, like I never cared about anything at all.
"How..." He started. He was not able to continue his sentence.
"Magick?" I answer, my voice monotone. His eyes turned to slits.
"There's no such thing as magick." Drift says. I thought I heard sarcasm in it. I was about to say something even more sarcastic when Gabby spoke. I totally forgot she was there.
"Okay, that's enough." She cut in, recovering from the shock because of the weapon I made. She looked at me, her eyes had the mixture of awe, disbelief and suspicion.
Drift gave me a questioning look. Both of them made me feel queasy, like I am a criminal with the worst offense made.
"Both of you, come with me." Gabby led us out of the training room. We followed behind her, the two of us far away from each other.
"How about training?" Drift asked. I don't know, but I think he doesn't want to be near me. He must've sensed my thoughts because he glanced at my direction. He immediately looked away, avoiding any eye contact.
"The training will not run away. It will always be there. The matter I have to speak to you is of utmost importance." She speaks in a voice that makes you recognize her authority. She led us downstairs. I have never went downstairs.
"Are we..." Drift started, his voice sounded nervous.
"Yes." Gabby answered. Okay, where are we exactly headed to?
It was dimly lit. The hallway downstairs was dusty, like it was rarely used. The walls were painted maroon
Gabby snapped her fingers and when I blinked, the dimly lit hallway became bright. It actually isn't a hallway. It was a room painted red. On the walls hung different types of... torture apparatus? My insides went cold in fear.
"Are you going to torture me?" I say, my voice shook. Gabby immediately looked at me in horror.
"Goodness, no." She said, Drift paled as he took in the surroundings. I guess I looked that pale as well. "This is the trial room." She continued.
My head felt dizzy as I glanced around. There were different kinds of whips; metal-edged, spiky, thick ends, oh God. There were also paddles, thick woods, chains... I felt like I want to vomit.
Drift and Gabby's voices sounded far away. The world spun around my eyes, my knees felt wobbly. Then, there was darkness.

Drift's POV
I caught Amane on time. She landed on my arms, pale and cold. I looked at Gabby, I knew she did this.
"Gabby...?" I started. She stared at me, her eyes unreadable.
"Put her on the slab." She instructed, I followed, like I was hypnotized. I knew what she was going to do, I've seen this before. I didn't want to put Amane there, but my body is not coordinating with my mind.
I laid her on top of the slab gently, fixed her position, and moved away. Gabby went near her body, her hands glowed brightly, as she shut her eyes.
"Seek, dig deeper than you did the first time you entered her mind." She said in authority.
This might make her insane. Or worse, kill her. I started to walk toward Amane, I feel my body hesitate, stopping my strides. I felt Gabby's stares at me, like she was controlling me. I will myself to stop, that I should not hurt her, that I can't hurt her.
"Drift." Gabby says in warning. I lost my control in my body, lost in the spell, lost in my mind.
I held Amane's hand. I closed my eyes, this would be more difficult. I couldn't get lost in her eyes and seek what I have to. I connected with her, willing my mind to open hers and have a good glimpse with her memories.
It was empty, at first. But a series of images suddenly flashed, her memories.
***
She looked at herself in the mirror. No, she was looking at her back. Her back had scars, long and short. She touched them, closing her eyes.
She held the scissors in her hand, and her long black hair on the other. She stared at her reflection, she was about to cut her hair, but instead, she put the scissors down.
She braided her long hair, fixing it. She saw a very faint inking of a letter A on her nape. She scrunched her brows, looking confused.
She went out of her room, looking dazed. She entered the library, headed for the weapons room. She treaded inside, looking for something. She stopped in front of a casing of a weapon. She took it and ran her fingers on it's blade. She saw blood flow from a wound. She put her wounded finger on her mouth, and stood frozen.
She looked inside a big house. No, a mansion. It looked grand. She went around, stopping to look at the pictures on display. She saw a photo of children who looked like a younger version of her. She held her head, and as she closes her eyes, she sees herself. No, a child who looks exactly like her.
She fell on the floor in the weapons room. She looked--
"Enough!" Gabby shouted, and I was brought back to reality, my head felt painful, my forehead matted with sweat, my insides were cold.
I looked around, how the hell did I get in her? I never went downstairs. I never wanted to enter the trial room.
I see Amane laid on the slab, my hand held hers. Her hand felt cold. Ice-cold.
I stared at Gabby in bewilderment. What have I done?
"Head upstairs Drift. I need some time alone with this girl." She said, her voice quiet.
"I'm not leaving, what did I do to her?" I asked. I felt like I did something against my will.
"You did nothing wrong. Now go." Gabby said sternly. I flinched, she rarely used that tone of voice. Not unless she's angry.
As I walked away, heading for the stairs, I hear Gabby mutter.
"I never thought I would meet you, Azalea."
