Just when Bob and Runt scrambled out of the room, Principal Kenneth walked through the other door and looked at Mrs. Jannette.
"Did I overhear a decision being made without my consult?" He asked quietly.
Mrs. Jannette was pale and her left eye started to twitch. She was extremely fearful of Principal Kenneth. Everyone knew that she was one mistake away from being fired. Principal Kenneth was very strict when it came to his school. The only two things he cared about were rules and football. If students didn't follow the rules or consult him in any decision to be made, he would do all he can to kick them out of his school. Football on the other hand was his weak point. He loved competition. He loved it so much, that he would yell at the coaches to do better and if not, a dock in pay would suffice. Many people didn't know if he was able to do that, but fear kept them in there place.
Charlotte decided to speak, " I told the acrobats that we would be able to attend their show, being that they were so kind as to offer us the first bit of it. It would be wrong to decline." she gulped.
"Principal Kenneth looked at her with fire in his eyes. He didn't like decisions being made without him, but Charlotte knew that he would not want to embarrass himself by telling the acrobats no. He never wanted to look like the bad guy; he had students to do that for him.
"Alright, how long will this bit be?" he asked.
"I'm not sure, sir," she answered still staring into the flames.
"Hm, well I guess I do not see the harm in it. We will just have to cut off break time for the seniors than."
The seniors started to protest and pointed at Charlotte in the process. Out of the corner of her eye, Jerrald was laughing.
"QUIET! It has already been decided. Next week, no break time for the seniors. You all are to report to this room and you are to sit here until the bell rings. This is for not consulting me!"
He looked at Charlotte as he said the last part.
Charlotte went from fear to anger. She seemed to be doing that a lot these days. She wanted to scream at Jerrald, at Mrs. Jannette, at Principal Kenneth, everyone.
It's not worth it...
The wisdom of her dad popped in her head and she shut it out for a second when she looked at Jerrald. He stopped smile for a second and then Charlotte let the wisdom engulf her. She felt her nerves go flat and she gave a small, slightly psychotic grin.
"So? Who wants to go see the monkeys?" She asked.
---------------------------------------------------
Nobody talked to her as they walked except for Chase and Morgan.
To break the silence, Chase started talking about her dad.
"Is your dad still on the road?" Chase asked.
"Yea, he's in California right now dropping off a load and he is going to go to New York next."
"When is he coming back?"asked Morgan.
"Hm, I don't know. They seemed to be taking away his time off because, well, they can I guess. I don't know," she replied sadly.
"Well, maybe he'll make it back before Christmas..." Chase said hopefully.
Charlotte shrugged and kept walking. All her thoughts drifted to what would happen after the show. She figured she would probably get yelled at or something, but she hoped it wouldn't affect anything important...like her future.
They walked though the double doors and into the gym. Everyone got on the bleachers, all three sat up at the very top, and waited till everyone sat down. Everything was covered with one curtain. She had the sudden memory of The Wizard of Oz and was half expecting a guy to pop out from the curtain.
Everything when black suddenly.
