'Hey, um...' I knew that voice all too well. I slowly turned around to face the stage. There he was, fixing his guitar strap.

My throat went completely dry and my heart began to pound.

Did he see the kiss? Did he see Matt run out? Did he even know where I was in the crowd?

'I'd like to dedicate this song to my beautiful girlfriend, Bobby, who's here tonight with our best friend Matt as I didn't think I'd make it in time.' The crowd cheered and hollered. 'This is "Don't be a Fool"'

The crowd in front of me parted to let me walk forward. I put on a smile and began to slowly stroll forward towards the stage. I felt the crowd close in behind me as I walked. I didn't know how to react or hide the fact that Matthew and I had just kissed. Shawn's eyes locked on mine as I reached the front of the crowd. He began to sing with so much more passion than he had been. In that moment I realised he was singing a breakup song, my heart pounded faster, if that was even possible. My palms became sweaty and my eyes glazed over.

'But don't be a foooollll.' Shawn sang as the sound of his guitar faded out. The crowd cheered once again. His smile was huge as we all clapped for him. 'Thank you, have a great night.' He smiled before leaving the stage.

I composed myself before walking towards the side of stage where he was climbing down the steps. A crowd gathered around him asking for selfies and hugs. Of course he was happy to take photos with the girls and the few guys that asked.

'Thank you for your support, have a great night!' Shawn said after hugging a girl I knew from my English class.

His eyes locked on mine and he came over. He rest his hands on my hips while smiling like an idiot. He slowly dipped his head to kiss me sweetly. Not like Matt's kiss. I knew I shouldn't have been thinking of Matthew while kissing Shawn but I couldn't help it. I pulled out and smiled. 'Hello'

'Hey.' He chuckled, biting on his bottom lip.

'What are you even doing here?' I smiled.

'I planned to come here. I was preforming early tonight then got here as fast as I could to see my beautiful girlfriend on her prom night.' He smiled proudly. 'Where's Matt?'

I felt horrible. 'I'm the luckiest girl alive.' I smiled through the pain. 'Uh I'm not sure, he should be around here somewhere.'

'Oh well.' Shawn shrugged. 'I wanted to talk to you.'

My heart began to pound again. 'Oh, really?' I asked. He nodded.

'Can we go somewhere a bit quieter?' He asked. I nodded. I led him out of the room and into a hall area furnished with couches and coffee tables. One or two couples were situated around the room. We went into a corner and sat down.

'You clean up very well.' I nodded in approval of Shawn in a tux. He chuckled slightly.

'I know about England.'

Phew.

My heart rate eased slightly.

'What? How?' I asked rather puzzled.

'Matthew told me. He cares about you a lot Bobby.'

'Oh I know.' I said slightly sarcastically.

'Why didn't you tell me?'

I sighed and dragged a hand through my hair. 'Because I'm not going.' I shrugged.

'What? Are you crazy? This is an amazing opportunity! Why on earth would you not take it Bobby?'

'Because it's hard enough not seeing you all of the time, we'd never see each other if I lived in England. I'd never see my family or any of my friends.'

'Bobby, if I'm what's stopping you then that's just not something I can except. I can't stop you from this experience. You're family will go visit, you'll make new friends.'

I felt the tears brimming in my eyes. 'I don't want to leave you.' I croaked. It was true. I know what I feel for Shawn and it's real, Matthew was an accident. It didn't mean anything. I'm in love with Shawn and I'm sure of it.

His eyes were watery too as he came in close to kiss me again. 'I want you to follow your dreams. I want to support you like you've done for me.'

'You have Shawn.'

'No I haven't Bobby. I'm not going to be selfish and let you pass this one up.' He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a little box. He flipped open the lid and inside lay a beautifully simple little ring. It had two diamonds set in it, one black and one white. The ring wasn't fully connected, a parting was between the two diamonds.

'Shawn...' I gasped. It was beautiful.

'It's a promise ring, you're the white diamond and I'm the black... even though they're not together right now they're still connected. Like I hope we'll be when you go.' He smiled half heartedly.

Tears threatened to spill as I took the ring from the box. Inscribed on the inside of the band was 6•25•15. I looked up at Shawn and bit my lip. 'That's the date we met.' I smiled.

He nodded.

I placed it on my finger then grabbed his cheeks. 'I love it.' I said after kissing him.

'Good.' He smiled before pulling me into a hug. That's when I noticed Matt in the distance. His head dropped and he turned away. I shut my eyes for a second or two but when I reopened them Matt was gone.
