Kun laid out the typical checkered picnic blanket on the grass under a shady tree while WinWin opened the basket that Lay so graciously filled with Chinese dishes. It was the perfect day for this thought out family picnic.
The sun was bright, the sky was blue and the breeze was just right. After Kun helped WinWin set the dishes out the two leaned against the tree, quietly watching Renjun chase Chenle on the playground.
"Kun..." WinWin started, tilting his head from on Kun's shoulder. "Can life be like this everyday?"
"What do you mean?"
"Happy. Peaceful and filled with laughter?" Kun hummed, as he thought about what to say. He didn't want to lie but he didn't want to put WinWin down as well.
"I can't promise this everyday but I'll continue trying to make yours, Renjun and Chenle's life happier for as long as I can." WinWin giggled but nodded nonetheless.
"Dad!" Chenle shouted as he ran towards the two, Renjun close behind. Chenle fell onto Kun's lap, practically trying to hide himself in Kun's jacket. "Renjun is trying to tickle me."
"Nooo." Renjun innocently smiled. WinWin laughed, pulling Renjun down onto his lap.
"Are you trying to tickle Le?" Renjun squirmed as WinWin began tickling him. Kun decided to do the same to Chenle. All their laughter combined, brightening the mood even more.
Once the tickling died down they began eating. Sometime during the meal a puppy found its way to them. Chenle noticed first, setting down his food he grabbed the puppy and showed the others.
"He likes me!" He smiled as the brown puppy licked his cheek. Renjun grabbed some of his rice and placed it out for the dog to try.
"Awwww. Kun!" WinWin stuck his bottom lip out in a pout. "Can we keep him?"
"Oh please! Please please please!" Both Renjun and Chenle joined in, giving Kun the irresistible puppy dog eyes. Kun went through a mental turmoil watching his three babies beg and do aegyo.
"Um.." He stuttered, trying to find words. After Chenle began to fake tears he broke his stature and gave in. "Okay! We can keep it. I'm sure the others wouldn't mind."
Shouts of cheers broke out. WinWin took Chenle, Renjun and the puppy to play a few feet over. "Aigoo. The members are going to kill me."
"Mom! I found him! I found Rocky!" A girl no older than 5 came running up to WinWin. Kun stood up and joined the group just as the girls parents joined.
"Thank you sir!" The girl reached out for the puppy. WinWin looked at Kun for help but all he could do was stand helpless as he handed over the puppy.
The parents thanked them before leaving. Renjun and Chenle frowned as they watched the family leave with the puppy. Not liking the faces they were making Kun clapped his hands. "I have an idea."
"What is it?" Renjun questioned in a monotone voice.
"Let's go look at puppies at the animal shelter! That way we can pick our very own!"
"Really?" Their eyes and expressions brightened as Kun nodded. The kids attacked Kun into a tight hug before taking WinWin's hand and running off to the car.
"Love you honey!" WinWin called out. Kun smiled and waved to him before sighing.
He ran his hand through his hair as he pulled out his phone and dialed Lay. "Hi Kun. How's it going?"
"You wouldn't happen to have room at your house for a new dog, right?"
