Adela wondered what was wrong with Jose. She didn't know why he reacted the way he did when she mentioned his parents and she wanted to find out.
Adela made her way inside with the plates, they used for breakfast. Her mother had always thought to clear up after herself and that was what she was going to do.
"Oh my! Mrs Rodriguez, you don't have to do that. There are more than enough people. " Martha said making to collect the tray from her.
"Please ma'am, it's nothing and please call me Adela." Adela said as she dropped the dishes on the counter.
Martha smiled at the girl. She knew Jose chose well. This Adela was young and sweet. She looked too young. Martha wondered just how old this girl was. She could not be more than twenty one she guessed.
"Oh it's something. I don't think your husband will be happy seeing you do this. " Adela smiled. She remembered her father that was the same way he would act when he saw doing any chores.
Martha got to the task of taking care of the dishes. She wondered why those girls were when she needed them.
Adela sat in the kitchen, seeing as she had nothing to do.
"So how old are you, darling?" Martha said trying to make conversation.
"I'm seventeen. " Adela answered. Martha almost broke the plate in shock. She knew the girl was young but not that young.
"Wow." Martha said drying her hands as she finished with the dishes. Martha also noticed how the girl was glowing. She was a pretty little thing.
"Yes. I know I'm young but I had my parents consent. Actually it was my father's idea. " Adela said smiling.
Martha not wanting to pry decided not to ask anything.
Adela decided to look for Jose. She wanted to see her mother. She felt too alone in this big house. She found him having a smoke. His eyes were red. She wondered what was wrong with him. He never acted like this at home.
"Jose." Adela said placing her hand on his thick shoulder. He always seemed to put out his smoke when she came.
He raised his eyebrow asking what she wanted.
"What's wrong with you?" She asked him.
"Nothing. What do you want, Adela?" He asked like he wants her to go.
"I was looking for you. Your house is too big." She said to him, smiling.
Jose felt better when he saw the smile on her face.
"Our house. It's ours. " Jose said pulling her, closer. There was just this thing about her that attracted him.
"Why do you smoke? I never saw you smoking at home. " Adela asked. Smoking was a bad habit to her. It was bad for his health.
"I don't know. I just do. It helps me calm down." Jose said, stroking her hair. He sat her on his lap.
"Well you have to stop. It's not nice. Your breath stinks. " Adela said, placing her hands on his chest. She scrunched her nose.
Jose stifled a smile. He wrapped his hand around her neck and pulled in for a kiss. He nuzzled her nose and watched how her lips parted. He only brushed her lips with his before he stared into her eyes. She had this kiss me look about her.
Adela slapped his chest as her cheeks turned pink. She had thought he was going to kiss her. Jose laughed at her.
"I thought you said my breath stinks" Jose asked, smugly.
