We can NEVER be Together

Chapter Seven

I feel like I'm back in that restaurant. Dad can't sit still and his eyes are looking everywhere but me.

"Tobin, I was telling the truth when I said we came here because I got a new and better job. But I could have decided if I wanted to take it or stay in New Jersey. I did choose to come here to give you a fresh start. I felt being tied to New Jersey and that house wasn't healthy for either of us. But I also choose to come because I wanted to be with Pam. We've been together for a while. All those business trips, I was coming to see her." Dad explains.

"You could have told me, you know that right?" I mumble.

"I didn't know how you would react. I haven't dated anymore since your mother, I was nervous."

"WELL HAVING ME SIDELINED LIKE THAT WASN'T COOL! NOT TO MENTION YESTERDAY WAS THE 17TH BUT WHO GIVES A FUCK RIGHT?" I yell.

I push past Dad and go to my room. I slam the door closed and lock it. I grab my bag and start throwing random clothes in it. Dad is knocking on the door trying to convince me to open it which is making me angrier. I pull out my phone and text Hope.

Me: Where are you?

Hope: Outside your house, let's go.

I run out the house and hop in Hope's car.

"Tobin, your shaking." Hope says.

I look down at my hands and see she's right.

"I can't stop, I'm so fucking mad at him!" I yell.

I punch the dashboard but I don't feel a thing. Hope starts driving, I just sit back not caring where we are going at this point. I guess I zoned out because next thing I know Ashlyn is in the car. Hope gives Ashlyn this look and Ash nods. We take off but not in the direction of Hope's house.

"So where are we going?" I ask.

I mean we've been driving for a while, I think I deserve to know where the fuck I'm going.

"Just relax." Hope says.

I don't have time for this. I sit back and try to take my mind off everything that's happened in the last 24 hours. I see a huge building that says CrossFit Beyond, I guess that's where we are going because we pull into the parking lot.

"What the hell is CrossFit Beyond?" I ask.

"Just come on, trust me it'll get your mind off things for a while." Ash says.

I shrug and get out the car. Hope and Ashlyn grab two Nike bags from the trunk and we go inside. We walk into the lobby and the guy sitting at the front desk looks at us.

"Hey Hope, hey Ash I haven't seen you guys in a while." He says.

"We know, we are in season so we don't have as much time as we usually do." Hope says.

"Whose your friend?" He asks.

"This is Tobin, Tobin this is Chris he is the manager of this box. So majority of the time when you come in you'll see him or his assistant." Hope explains.

"Well I'll see you guys after your workout." Chris says.

He goes back to his desk and answers the phone that's been ringing for the longest. I follow Hope and Ash to the locker room.

"You really think working out is going to get my mind off things?" I ask.

"You've obviously never done CrossFit before." Ash says.
