We can NEVER be Together

Chapter Ten

We've been sitting in silence for the last ten minutes. The only thing you can hear is the silverware touching the plate.

"So, this isn't awkward at all." Syd says.

I laugh at her comment. I'm a firm believer that when a situation is awkward you get out of it by making it even more awkward.

"Its so awkward because people have a crush on people at this table. But that's none of my business" I say.

I pick up my cup and obnoxiously slurp it. Syd looks at me and she nods her head. I knew I liked her for a reason.

"Yeah, Harli and Krashlyn. I mean why can't you guys get together already?" Syd asks.

Hope is drinking water and start coughing when Syd says that.

"You okay Hope?" I ask.

Hope glares at me but I'm feeling pretty bold at the moment.

"I mean the only thing I can think of as to why you guys aren't together. Is because your afraid of rejection." I say.

"In not scared of anything." Hope says.

"Then man up, or at least woman up." Syd says.

"Fine, Carli, would you like to go out with me sometime?" Hope asks.

Carli looks up from her plate and smiles at Hope.

"I'd love to." She says.

"What about you Krieger? Will you go out with me?" Ashlyn asks.

"Of course." Ali says.

I give Syd a high five across the table.

"Our work here is done." Syd says.

"Tobin." Hope says.

I look at her.

"Run." Ash says.

I don't question it, I just get out of my seat and take off. Considering Hope and Ashlyn are goalkeepers, I'm faster than them. But we do some of the same conditioning, so I'm screwed. I run out back to the pool and stop if the edge. But Hope and Ashlyn keep running, pushing us all into the water. I swim up to the surface and see Alex, Syd, Ali, and Carli laughing at the three of us.

"Now our job is done." Hope says.

We get out the pool and because we're already wet we just take off our shirts and pants, leaving us in our sports bra and boxers. Yes, we did all just takek showers but its seven pm on a Saturday night so we decide to live a little. Hope pushes Carli into the pool and Ashlyn does the same to Ali. I look at Syd and Alex but they're already taking their clothes off, they jump in and join everyone. We stay in the pool messing around for a few hours. Alex and I go and get the fire pit started.

"This is nice." Alex says.

"Yeah, maybe this won't be so bad after all." I say.

The girls get out the pool and we all spend the rest of the night talking around the fire. I'm not going to lie, I can't complain right now. We start talking stories about random memories, soccer, school, friends, and much more. I look at my phone and see it's almost midnight and suggest we all call it a night. The girls agree and we head into the house for the night. Hope and Ash come to my room and since Ash in the last one in, she closes the door behind her.

"You know, that wasn't too bad." Hope says.

"I agree." Ash says.

"So what I'm hearing is thank you Tobin." I say.

"No what your hearing is we are going to beat Your ass Tobin." Hope says.

"Yeah, just not tonight because I'm tired." Ashlyn says.

I laugh and get in my bed. I got extra blankets so Hope and Ashlyn could make plates on the floor. I have carpet in my room and its quite comfortable. I check my phone once more for no reason. Don't act like you don't do it to before falling asleep.
