The first two rotters rounded the hallway. I started to scream, tears rolling down my face.

This is it. I'm going to die because of some stupid glass door. Glass door?

"It's a glass door." I said.

Looking at the first rotters who eagerly wanted my skin I quickly chose my decision. Without any hesitation I swung my bat as hard as I could at the glass door, and smiled to myself as it shattered into tiny shards.

Without losing my momentum I used the swing to pull myself out of the crowded hallway and into my backyard before they could get a taste of me. I rolled onto my back and quickly sprung up as they came single file through the door.

Glancing around I saw more rotters coming around from the side of the house. I was trapped in all but one way. I turned around and started running towards the wooden fence that separates our yard from the neighbors yard opposite of us.

I didn't try jumping it as I knew it would only hurt me more. I started kicking it, and almost yelled out in joy as three lose boards gave way. I slipped through effortlessly and was in the other yard when the rotters had just reached the fence.

I didn't know for how long it would hold up, so I didn't even feel like stopping. I ran past the house and onto the street looking around for more rotters as I went. I stopped in the middle of the street as I glance back to find them making their way towards me, having broken down that fence as well.

I felt hopeless, and almost gave up. There was another hoard to the right of me, and to the left there was the remains of what used to be a nice bridge. It had been destroyed when the wall had been put up.

No. You won't die now. You've made it this far. Just keep going. Just survive somehow.

I kept pushing on through the backyards as the number of rotters grew larger.

Half the city must be behind me!

I kept running, and when I couldn't break a fence I would just run to the next yard over and try. Many times the rotters almost had me, but I would always manage to squeeze through a small opening in the fence that I would make at the last second.

To think I would be able to outrun them. They are shuffling.

I kept going, never turning around anymore. One of the times when I had passed a house I swear I saw someone looking at me from an upstairs window, but I didn't feel like stopping.

They were probably dead anyways.

The moans started to gradually soften as I managed to outrun them time and time again. Many lost interest after the countless fences, but there was still a lot after me.

My sides were starting to hurt, and my lungs ached from all the running. My legs felt like jelly by the time all of the rotters had lost interest in me. My pack may have what I need, but it's still a lot of stuff to carry around.

Looking around I sat down at a bus stop to catch my breath. Watching for rotters the whole time. I took my bag off, and fumbled around for a water bottle. Finding one, I opened it up, and took a much needed drink.

I had just finished about half of the bottle when I decided to find some cover. This was only the morning. I still had the rest of the day to go.

What a workout.

Putting the bottle back in the bag I quickly zipped it back up, and threw it on again. I walked down the road with my bat, and realized that I must have ran into the business district of the city because there was all stores around, or food joints. I walked over to a random building that had pawn shop on a nice sign out front.

"Maybe it will have a bed in the back." I said with a trace of hope.

Opening the door I stopped before a small bell went off to alert the person at the counter. I glanced around outside, but was worried about what could be inside. Taking my chances I opened the door the rest of the way, and waited at the front to see if the small ring would attract any rotters out from there hiding spots.

Nothing came, and satisfied with that I carefully went around the building, checking rooms, and making sure I was actually alone. I found a pair of pink fuzzy handcuffs with keys and used them to latch the two front doors together.

Nothing's getting in or out without the keys.

I slipped them into my left pocket as I searched around for some more stuff. In the back I found a small refrigerator with about 10 bottles of water in it.

"Thank you." I praised to no one in specific.

Opening my bag I took out the half empty bottle of water, and finished it off as I put the new bottles inside of it. I found some cheap astronaut food on sale here, and said, "How much better could this day get?"

I opened a bag that was labeled watermelon, and enjoyed my stomachs sudden calming from the late breakfast. I finished two more bags both labeled watermelon as well, and took another sip from a bottle of water.

Let's see what other wonders this place will behold to me..

I couldn't believe my luck in what I had found, and I wanted to see how far it would go. I walked over to the cash registers desk and started looking around for anything that could be considered "useful". I looked around the lower desk that was hidden from sight, but found nothing that would help me out in any way unless I wanted to die from lung cancer.

I then opened up a drawer that was just set out of sight from the opposite side of the counter. Inside of the drawer was a CZ-USA 85 combat along with another clip. I hesitantly touched the gun, and then picked it up. I set it on the counter and looked at it.

The safety seemed on, and I remember from my time playing video games how to unload one. I searched for the side button on it, and slowly pulled out the clip. I started pulling out bullets to see how many were in a clip. I counted sixteen total in that clip, and then slowly put them back in while counting each one.

Surprisingly this gun felt good in my left hand. Usually guns are made for right handed people, but this one seemed to be for both left, and right handed people. Looking around I slipped the gun onto safety as I put the clip back in. I searched around but found no holster to help carry it.

I decided to put it between my back and pants to hold it in place while the other clip went into a slot in my vest.

My vest.

Looking at my vest again I found a place where I could put the gun at. I took it and slid it into the small holster that had at first went unnoticed by me.

At least I have some more protection. Gotta use the bullets wisely though. The noise will attract more, and I can't afford to miss.

The end of another great chapter. Yes. I did use a walking dead thing. If you remember JSS.

Was this coincidence, or just peer luck as he chose the store. What will happen to our now homeless survivor.

Was it a face in the window? We may never know now that he didn't go back....
