Nothing had ever happened in the small city of Twinsten, Kansas where the population had been steadily climbing until it reached a limit of 2,365 current occupants. That is until a virus from a nearby research lab had been released into the air. Nothing had happened, but the officials still feared a viral outbreak.
A quarantine had been placed on the city of Twinsten with a occupancy level of 2,429 merely 3 hours after the initial "outbreak". It was first set up as construction work to keep the crowds from forming until the National guard could show up.
10 hours after the release of the unknown substance that had been locked away in cold storage the first report came in to a local police station.
A worried call to why the military wouldn't let them leave the city. The police station was ecstatic after the call. They didn't even know they were in a quarantine.15 hours after the "outbreak" one call was made from an apartment building to the hospital after a resident found someone on the ground. The ambulance arrived to find a spasming man as they loaded him up.
2 hours after the call, and 17 hours after the outbreak a frantic call had been made from the hospital. Police arrived to find people swarming out. The man had been proclaimed dead 30 minutes ago from an overdose of pain medication. 10 minutes ago the supposed dead man came back to life and had attacked a nearby nurse mauling her almost to death.
Police entered the building as people rushed out. The injured nurse had been taken to a secondary sight for the hospital as the police went to subdue the man. Thirty minutes later the man was subdued, but not before he inflicted wounds upon two officers.
19 hours after the outbreak all three of the people who had been injured by the man had succumbed to a fast, and rapid death. The bodies were taken to a morgue where they were left sitting on tables for further examination.
The rest of the day went smoothly without any further panic as seen from the citizens.
21 hours after the outbreak the morgue opened, and they went to examine the three new bodies for cause of death. Two people worked the night shift, and both helped in the morgue.
22 hours later the morgue became silent, and shifts were about to change.
Both workers had been fed upon by the three supposedly dead bodies.24 hours later shift change occurred in the morgue, and the virus saw its first chance at spreading rapidly. Patient zero, or the man in prison that had first succumbed to the virus never left the cell, and was put into isolation. The workers of the morgue went to the back and opened the door to an appalling sight.
25 hours after the outbreak a call was made to the police station complaining about loud noises coming from the Morgue. Two police officers went to investigate in one squad car.
The morgue doors had been unlocked, and the morgue itself seemed empty. The front rooms were abandoned, but the door leading to the morgue itself was open.
The two officers made the standard procedures and called out to see if anyone was in there. They could hear noises coming from inside, and one officer approached the door while the other stayed behind.
From outside the morgue nearby residents could here the sounds of gunshots and screams as the infected came out of the morgue. Many calls had been made to the police station moments after the gunshots.
27 hours after the outbreak the quarantine zone was quiet. Almost all of the population had become infected and the remaining ones that were uninfected had barricaded themselves inside of their homes. The walls around the city remained guarded.
48 hours after the outbreak no guards were seen from inside of the quarantine zone. Those who had barricaded themselves inside had no chance of leaving. The infected roamed the streets, and any signs of life could not be found.
Electricity, plumbing, and emergency services were unavailable. People were lucky to be together, or have another person with them at all. All of the people still alive knew how it spread, but didn't know how to stop the people from spreading it. Those who did found out to late, and became infected as well.
The quarantine would become a death trap for those still alive inside, but only one person would find a way out, and see how the world has changed.
