Chapter 5 (I wanna go home)

Previously:

"Did you have fun buddy?" I ask smiling at him as I hand him a glass of eggnog and plate of turkey that Tracy gave us. I then grab my plate of turkey and sat down.

"I did, did you?" He smiles eating his turkey and I nod.

"I did."

"This turkey good!" I smiled softly and laugh.

"So you ready for school next Monday?" I asked him and he shrugs then nods.

"I guess. I don't know.. I rather stay home wit-" Carter was interrupted by a knock on the door.

I got up from my chair and look out the peep hole of the door seeing a police officer. I take a deep breath in and let it out and opens it.

"Hello officer." I said. He gives me a nods and smiles.

"Hello young lady, we got a report of two kids staying here alone with no guardian?" He asked.

I froze I didn't know what to say, what was I going to do. It was only time before this happen but I was hoping it wasn't this soon.

I looked back at my brother, he was looking back at me and then I look back the the officer. "I'm the guardian of my bother." I said.

"How old at you?" He asked and I was going to lie but I know it was not going to be so convincing.

"16 years old."

"Do you have anyone else who can take care of you guys? If not you have to come with me." I sigh and look down. We had no one. Our dad has been gone for awhile now, James family already filled and we have no clue where our mother is.

"No." I simply said and he nodded.

"You both need to come with me." He said and I nodded not arguing.

"Come on Carter we have to go." I said.

"But I don't want to go." He whines.

"We will be back soon, but we have to go with the nice police officer okay bud?" I said as I ruffled his hair and he nodded slowly as I take his hand in my hand walking out with him behind the police officer.

We've been sitting on this bench at the police station for about an hour now, I'm ready to go. I looked over at Carter he looks up at me.

"I wanna go home." He said.

"I do too." I said softly wrapping an arm around him into a tight embrace holding him close.

After sitting for another hour or so a lady comes up to us standing next to the police officer. I still hold Carter as we both stand up.

"Hello, I'm Mrs. Jackson. But you may call me Alice." She said. She was a tall lady who look to be in her late 30s maybe, with dirty blonde hair that was in a bun.

I nodded not saying anything and she gives me a soft smile.

"I'm Gabriella and this is Carter."

"Nice to meet you both." She smiled again and I smiled softly.

"Well, since it's late at night you both will be staying with me tonight in till tomorrow." She said.

"I want my stuff." Carter mumbled looking up at me.

"We will get it tomorrow okay sweetie." She said smiling and he looked up me.

Carter and I were sitting on the bench outside the office with our things waiting for them to come out. We been sitting here for at least 20 minutes the most and I let Carter play on my iPad to keep him occupied.

After awhile Mrs. Jackson comes out with a women and a man who I guess where a couple and me and Carter stand up.

"Okay you guys, we try to see if we could find your mum but she still can't be found and we try to find your dad.. But we couldn't find him either." She said.

"Now I found nice great parents who I'm sure you both would love, but they could only take one of you. " She said.

"No, I want to stay-" Carter said but I cut him off.

"He will go with them." I said.

"But Bella.." he sigh looking up to me holding my hand tight.

I bend down to my knees an look up at him.

"Carter, I want you have a family and be able to live like a kid. I don't want you to be in a group home they don't have much freedom, This is your chance to start over."

"But what about you." He asked.

"Don't worry about me. Okay? You don't need too."

"I wanna go home Bella." He tears up and I felt the corner of my eyes tear up as I wipe his tears that were falling down his cheek.

"Listen, go with the nice lady. I promise I will be back for you okay and everything will be find." I said.

"You promise?" His voice cracked.

"I promise." I whispered and he sniffs and I smile softly, pulling him into a tight hug, I didnt want to let him go.

"I love you Bella." He said as we pull apart.

"I love you too Carter."

"Okay Carter, this is John and Hellen they will be your foster parents." She said and the couple smiled at him.

"You ready to go?" Hellen asked giving him a warm smile and he turn to me and I nodded at him.

He nods at the couple, but before he leaves he gives me one last hug and I whisper to him I promise one more time and he grabs his stuff as they help carry his things and he walks with them but looks at me one last time and I give him a small wave.

Hellen turns around and looks at me and walks toward me. "We will take care of him and do the best we can to make sure he stay safe." she smiled and gives me a hug and I hug her back nodding and she walks away.

"Okay Gabriella? I know a great girls group home for you." She said. "So let's get going." She smiled and grab my things and I follow behind her looking back seeing Carter far down the hall as we walk out the door to her car and gets in.

(the foster home part I didn't know how that stuff work so I just took a guess, plus it's my story and my imagination so I can say and do whatever I want. Lol)
