This imagine is dedicated to FandomBeforeBlood_13 Sorry for the long wait. I hope you like it! :)
You realize the beautiful orange glow that surrounds you one day while the Doctor is rambling on about what planet he wants to take you to next. You take it all in, the colors orange, yellow and teal blue. The complexity of the machine you've now learned to call home.
"Are you even listening to me?" The Doctor asks.
But you choose to ignore him and continue to gaze at the TARDIS.
"What are you doing?" He asks, chuckling slightly at the sight of you.
This time you decide you better answer him. "I just don't feel like I really get the time to appreciate how lucky I am to be here... And how beautiful the TARDIS is!"
The Doctor suddenly glows with excitement, so much so that you can feel it pouring out of him.
"Want to fly her?"
"Wait, seriously?!" You exclaim.
"Yeah, well I'd have to teach you first and explain what everything is and its purpose and... then yeah. Why not?"
"Oh, I'd love to!" You exclaim, running up to the console. "As long as it's alright with you."
"I already said I was." The Doctor replies, confused.
"Not you, ya idiot. I was talking to her." You explain gesturing to the TARDIS. There's a loud purring sound that fills the room and the orange lights begin to shine brighter. "I guess that means yes." You laugh.
"You know," The Doctor says, almost sounding bitter about it. "I think she likes you more than me." Another loud purr fills the room as in response. He frowns and folds his arms. "No need to rub it in."
"Alright first off, what is the purpose of that?" You ask, pointing to the blue cylinder that's located in the middle of the console.
The Doctor uncrosses his arms and begins scratching his head nervously. "That's... that's the... um, Time Rotor! Yeah, the time rotor."
"OK," You chuckle. "And what does the time rotor do exactly?"
He stops scratching his head and pauses a moment. "It goes up and down when we're flying through the time vortex, haven't you been paying attention?"
You laugh and roll your eyes. "You have no idea what it does, do you?"
"Well... no. But what do you expect, a complex explanation of every little thing? I didn't even read the manual."
"Of course you didn't."
"Shut up." He mumbles, sticking his tongue out at you. "Let's just start with the basics, shall we?"
"We shall." You say stepping back to allow the Doctor to come forward.
"Now, there are 5, wait, no 6, panels to the main console." He flips a switch, causing a low rumble to echo through the TARDIS and then he continues. "The Navigation panel is pretty self-explanatory. It controls the TARDIS's coordinates and tries to help keep her going where she's supposed to go... It's obviously broken."
You laugh and then run around him to get to the next panel before he does. "And what does this panel do?"
"That is the Diagnostic panel." He answers, following close behind you. "It has the Quantum foam manipulators, organic diagnostic, Bunsen Burner and the cooling systems. Oh, and..." He runs the to another side of the panel and turns a knob. "Water dispensers." He pulls a cup out of his jacket pocket and fills it. He hands it to you and pulls out another cup for himself.
"How do you fit so much stuff in those pockets?" You ask, taking a sip of the wonderful tasting water. He smiles at you and takes a sip of his own water.
"They're bigger on the inside."
You can't help but chuckle and shake your head at him.
"Now, I think you've learned enough tonight, I'll show you more tomorrow."
"Awe Doctor, come on." You beg. "One more please."
He looks over at you and you begin to pout, hoping it'll convince him enough so he'll explain at least one more panel.
"Alright fine," He gives in. "But then it's off to bed with you."
"You're worse than my mother."
"Oi! Now that's not fair." He protested.
"Ok, cheap shot I know," You agree. "one last panel?"
The Doctor throws his cup over his shoulder and hurries to the next panel. "This is the communications panel, it's used to communicate. "Now go to bed."
"Doctor, come on. Just tell me what all of this is called... especially that." You say, pointing to the typewriter looking control.
"That's a typewriter." You scowl at him and he chuckles. "It also doubles as a scanner, and this," He says clicking a button. "is a voice recorder. I'm recording us now."
A loud clicking sound fills the TARDIS which is shortly followed by The Doctors voice once again. "I'm recording us now."
He chuckles and continues. "This is an Analog Telephone, and this is a Digital Communicator, now Go. to. Bed. If you want any chance of flying her tomorrow, I want you to be fully rested."
You can't help but smile gleefully. "Thank you, Doctor."
He smiles back. "You're welcome."
"No," You say, not thinking he truly understands what you meant. "thank you for choosing me."
He's blushing now but still smiling at you. He walks closer, his arms open widely and you quickly fill them. You bury your face in his tweed jacket and breath him in. He smells like butterscotch and old people. He's such a grandpa, you think to yourself.
You feel him turn his head so his mouth is directly against your ear and he whispers to you. "I didn't pick you," He pauses a moment and you become confused. What does he mean? Of course, he did.
"I didn't pick you...she did."
