Brandie's pov
We were all talking about music and stuff when there was a knock at the front door. I excused myself and walked over to it. I looked out the peep hole and saw it was the guys. I let them in and one by one they hugged me before walking into the kitchen. I decided to hang back and let them talk and stuff so I walked up to my room. I walked into my closet and found the small little door at the back. I opened it and took out everything that was in there. It was my dad's stuff he left here. I had moved it there. That was my hiding spot. I was the only one who knew about it. I pulled his stuff out and shut both doors. It was in a box so I set it on my bed and started going through his clothes, pictures, and everything else in there. I needed to do something with these. At the bottom of the box under my dad's favorite jacket I found something I didn't expect to find. His old Ucayali. I forgot he had it here. I took it out and brushed all the dust off before tuning it. I smiled and started playing random songs. I walked into the hall. I threw the Ucayali onto a bean bag in the loft before jumping over. I landed almost soundlessly and made sure the hidden ladder was up. I started strumming and I heard everyone coming upstairs. Pete and Patrick yelling for me not to scare people. I stood up and leaned against the barrier and kept playing. Spencer and Brendon jumped and I laughed. Patrick appeared behind me and I jumped. But I slipped so I fell back into his arms. He kissed my cheek and I moved my head back so I could kiss him.
After we pulled away I put my dad's Ucayali on the book shelf before climbing over the banister and jumped and grabbing the hallway banister. I pulled myself over and smiled,
"I haven't shown you guys the best 2 features. The back yard. And the basement. Backyard first. We raced down the steps; Patrick beating us to the back door. I opened it and walked onto the porch. The wicker furniture looked like it was still in good condition. I looked up and squealed. My old tree house was still there! It's got stairs going up to it, a bathroom, a kitchen, lights, a tv and all that stuff. It's basically a guest house. I raced over and climbed the steps opening the door. I raced to the bed room and climbed up into the other loft. I heard everyone following me as I rushed around. I missed this place. It also had a bridge into a hidden hide out in the treetops. I carefully and quietly raced across the bridge to my hideout. I opened the door and stepped in. It had my old bow and arrows in here. I loved target practice. I heard everyone yelling my name and McNarthy chuckle,
"She's in her hideout. Take the bridge." McNarthy helped me and my dad build this whole place. I heard everyone coming and I picked up my dad's old bow and arrow. I leaned out the window and found an old target. It was an empty sand bag nailed to a tree. I aimed carefully like I do when I'm going to make a goal. I released the tension as the door opened. The arrow arched and whizzed through the air hitting the target in the middle of the bulls eyes making a thudding sound. Everyone jumped and I put down the bow and arrow saying,
"Thanks a lot for selling out my hiding spot McNarthy!"
"C'mon Brandie Candy they were gonna find out sooner or later," he smiled. I made a 'really' face before climbing out the window onto the zip line deck. I slipped on a safety belt and clipped the cord to it before grabbing the handle bars and kicking off. As I past the tree I grabbed the arrow. I reached the other platform and switched handles before kicking off.
I landed on the platform and smiled, "Yeah y dad had a lot of money. And a lot of it was presents to birthdays or Christmas from my grandparents."
"If you have other family then why'd you go to the orphanage?" Andy asked. I looked down saying,
"My grandmother had cancer and my grandfather had Alzheimer's. They weren't qualified to take care of me. They were the only family I had left."
They all hugged me and McNarthy smiled, "Well I'm not too sure about that Brandie. Looks like you got a pretty big family right here." I smiled and hugged the old man before saying,
"Now lets go in the basement. I need to show you guys stuff. " They all followed me out of the trees into the house. I slid down the banister into the basement. I sat down at the control board and laughed as they all gaped. They started running around and messing with everything. I laughed and watched as McNarthy helped them record stuff. I started getting a call from the Academy and I slipped upstairs.
I accepted the call saying, "Hello?"
A deep voice asking, "Is this Miss Brandie Wentz?"
I nodded and then remembered they couldn't see me before replying, "Yes it is."
There was shuffling of papers before they said, "You are expected in your dorm ready for your first day of training by then end of Tuesday. Tuesday morning at 6 am you'll take a plane out here. You've been in the highest academic classes every school has to offer. You're at last year college level of intelligence. So you will spend every school day training. See you soon."
My eyes clenched shut and I sighed before choking out, "Okay. Bye." They said goodbye and I hung up. I'm leaving in 3 days. It's Saturday. I have tomorrow and Monday. I need to make the most of it.
