Dan is trying to get his Patronus-charm working on the Astronomy Tower. It doesn't quite work.
"Expecto Patronum!" A voice shouted from the top of the Astronomy Tower. A tiny, silver light escaped from the wand of the boy that had tried the spell, but it vanished in the air. The boy let out an irritated growl, his brown eyes flickering with anger as he loosened his green tie and lift his wand again. "Expecto Patronum!" Nothing happened. The boy angrily kicked away a little stone, but then he heard the voice of somebody else. "Excuse me, do you need some help?" Another boy stood in the doorway of the tower, with dark hair and eyes the color of the sky, a yellow and black tie around his neck. He smiled to the other boy, waiting for the permission to help him out. The boy with the green tie nodded, stroking back his brown hair. "I'm Dan, by the way", he said. "My name's Phil", the other boy answered. He came up to Dan and told him that he still couldn't make a perfect Patronus either, but he wasn't far from it anymore. "My mum always says that you have to think of a happy memory, the best you can find. You have to concentrate on that memory until it's the only thing on your mind, and then cast the spell. I've tried that many times before, but it didn't quite work." Phil let out a faint smile. Dan nodded, absorbing the information and trying to think of the perfect memory. "Hey," he said, "do you think it could work with a person too?" Phil looked suprised, he hadn't expected that question. "Er... I guess so. I never tried it. Maybe it'll work." The boys smiled at each other and both lifted their wands. They each concentrated on a particular person, not necessarily the one that was closest to them, just the first one that came up in their minds. They concentrated, Dan with furrowed eyebrows and Phil with a confident and warm look in his eyes. "Expecto Patronum!" They shouted the spell at the exact same time, and both wands let out a large silver lightning that quickly turned into an animal: a dog came out of Dans wand, happily playing with Phils fox. The boys looked at each other and started to cheer. It had worked, and so fast! The silver animals continued playing as Dan, in a moment of sheer happiness, hugged Phil tightly and whispered a "thank you" in his ear. He couldn't see how Phil was blushing heavily. When they stepped back, still standing close to each other, Phil soflty asked: "So, who were you thinking of?" Dan breathed a little laugh, his eyes shimmering like stars when he answered: "You."
