"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday dear Haeyoungee, happy birthday to you!" Jaehyun was singing and almost spitting on the birthday cake while singing his little sister a Birthday song. Haeyoung giggled, fixing the birthday hat on her head before taking all the air inside of her lungs and blowing out the candles.
"Happy Birthday, Haeyoungee!" Everyone called and Haeyoung smiled. "Thank you guys." She grinned and her Father handed her a knife so she could cut the birthday cake and handed out slices to all her guests. "Isn't Bongcha coming?" Mr Jung asked and Haeyoung stopped in whatever she was doing. Donghyuck and Mark exchanged a look before Mark coughed. "Mr Jung Bongcha forgot Haeyoung's birthday." He whisper-yelled making Haeyoung feel even worse.
"How could she forget her birthday? Bongcha is like a sister to Haeyoung." Jaehyun complained and Haeyoung smiled sadly. "It's not her fault." She sadly said. "She is just busy." Haeyoung defended Bongcha and Donghyuck scoffed. "Busy snogging that arrogant new student." He said and his Mother slapped his head. "Kim Donghyuck behave!" She warned and Mark chuckled.
"It's okay, really. You're all here so that's what matters." Haeyoung smiled and continued cutting the cake and giving it to her guests. After she cut the cake they all ate before continuing to exchange presents.
Haeyoung smiled when she saw that her Father had gave her a beautiful shirt and skirt; Jaehyun had prepared a pouch with cosmetics and make-up. "Belle helped me put this together. I hope you like it." Jaehyun smiled and Haeyoung grinned. "You're okay with me putting on make-up now?" Haeyoung asked in surprise and Jaehyun blushed.
"You're sixteen now, Haeyoung. Belle also told me to be a little easy on you." He smiled and Haeyoung's mood brightened up. "I'd love to meet Belle. You could have invited her!" Haeyoung smiled and Jaehyun just blushed and mumbled stuff, making the other guests laugh.
From Auntie Lee she got a voucher for a boutique she really liked and a cute bracelet. From Mark and Donghyuck she got the newest SHINee album and a cute keychain. "Thank you guys." She smiled hugging her cousin and her best friend. "This is the best birthday I ever had." She smiled but still tried to hide her feelings about the absence of her best friend.
While the adults were cooking the dinner, Haeyoung, Mark and Donghyuck went into Haeyoungs room. Donghyuck started to play a game on Haeyoungs Play Station while Mark sat down on her bed and tried to text Bongcha to at least call Haeyoung, but he never got an answer.
Haeyoung put the new CD she got into her CD player and started swaying her head to the music, forgetting that today was her sixteenth birthday and that her best friend forgot about it when the doorbell rang.
Jaehyun, who was watching a sitcom in the living room stood up and went to the door to open it. In front of him stood a high school student; probably not older than sixteen with a bright smile and a pink package in his hands.
"Annyeong-haseyo." The boy greeted and Jaehyun cocked an eyebrow. "Can I help you?" He asked and the boy nodded and pulled down his collar a bit. "I'm Na Jaemin, from Haeyoung's class. It's her birthday today isn't it?" He asked.
—
"Haeyoung, you have a guest!" Jaehyun called and knocked on Haeyoung's room. Haeyoung opened the door and widened her mouth when she saw Na Jaemin standing behind her brother. "Annyeong, Haeyoung-ah. Happy Birthday!" He called and stretched the pink box towards the surprised girl.
"T-Thank you." She breathed out and took the box. Jaehyun eyed the two of them nervously. "Haeyoung-ah, invite him in." He whispered towards his younger sister and Haeyoung gasped. "Ah, yes. Please enter." She said and watched Jaemin enter her bedroom.
Mark and Donghyuck immediatley jumped up and stared at the new guest to their small party. "Annyeong-haseyo," Jaemin said and bowed and awkwardly stood in the middle of the room. Haeyoung closed the door to her room and pointed towards her desk chair. "T-Take a seat." She mumbled and watched Jaemin sit down while she went to turn the music quieter.
"You didn't have to bring me something." She said and sat down next to Mark on the bed; Donghyuck was already continuing his game. "It's just something small. I remembered you telling me that you're a big fan of Cardcaptor Sakura and this is just something so you can cosplay her for the next Halloween." Jaemin mumbled while Haeyoung took off the wrapping paper and opened the box.
"Omo, daebak!" Mark called out when Haeyoung pulled out a yellow doll from the box. "Is he legit?" Mark asked, while Haeyoung took out the cute and soft Kero-chan. "Yes... I imported him from Japan." He said and Haeyoung sighed. "That's too much, Jaemin-ah. I can't possibly accept this. You spend too much—"
"Please keep it, Haeyoung." He said and sighed. "It's so hard to get you to talk and when you finally talk I don't want you to stop, okay? Please accept this present of mine." Jaemin looked at Haeyoung only, while Donghyuck eyed his classmates carefully before exchanging glances with Mark.
"Thank you a lot, Jaemin-ah. I will treasure it." She said and put Kero-chan back into his box before standing up and placing the box in her cupboard. "It was really nice of you to visit Haeyoung on her birthday, Jaemin-ah," Mark said and Jaemin bowed. "It's nothing. She's a friend."
Jaemin secretly hoped that she wouldn't say something against this now, but the birthday girl was just quietly looking at the wrapping paper in her hands. Jaemin blew up his cheeks. "We see us on Monday in school. Have a nice birthday, Haeyoung-ah." He said and walked to the door. Haeyoung sighed.
"Wait I'll take you to the door." She said and Jaemin smiled slightly, while Haeyoung led him through her house, past her Aunt and her Father who were still cooking Haeyoung's birthday dinner.
"It was really nice of you to visit me," Haeyoung said when she had opened the door and Jaemin had stepped out. "It's nothing, really." He said and scrathed his nape. "Please enjoy the rest of your birthday. Good night, Haeyoung-ah."
"Goodnight, Jaemin-ah."
