I walk quietly through the crowded streets of the City. It doesn't really have a name, so everyone just calls it the City. It's the area around the Institute, yet still within the walls. I have no idea what's behind the tall cobblestone structures, no one does. Everyone here goes to the Institute daily, where they do tests on us hybrids. The non-hybrids, who are either Scientists or shop owners, live inside the Institute while the hybrids live in homes throughout the City. We don't have to work here, you get paid every day thirty dollars every time we are experimented on. Usually it involves giving us potions or making our way through a senerio using our powers from our hybrid side. If you don't let them experiment, you get thrown out of the city. I've been here my whole life, so I have no idea what the rest of Minecraftia is like. Years ago they started excepting groups, and older people began to tell stories of great biomes of grass, savannas, an even oceans, all filled with hundreds of mobs and cities of other non-hybrid people.
In the Institute, hybrids can only talk to non-hybrids if they are given permission. Every group if hybrid has to live in its own separate home. Wither hybrids, pig hybrids, cat hybrids, wolf hybrids, spider hybrids, baccas, mudkips, and many others. Then there's me. I'm the only Herobrine hybrid in the City, so I'm all by myself. No one ever talks to me out of fear, so I started wearing a pair of thick black sunglasses when I turned thirteen that I'm told were given to me when I was a baby. Recently, about four months ago, the tips of my long brown hair faded white. That was when I turned twenty. The Scientists say it's normal for that to happen to my "species", but I really don't care. There are no places that allow girls to get haircuts in the city, so most of us have long hair. Some people cut it with scissors or razors, while other people like me leave it the way it is. When I was fifteen I cut it for the first time using a pair of scissors so it was only halfway down my neck. since then it has grown out a lot, so it falls three-fourths of the way down my back.
I bump into someone and I feel my glasses slip. I turn to snap at the person, but am cut off when someone else knocks into me. My glasses fall clear off and they start to fall to the ground, but with my speed I grab them before they can shatter. That's one of the perks of being a Herobrine hybrid. "I'm so sorry!" They say, squeaking. I turn to see a girl, probably nineteen, with ginger hair and a faded amber hoodie. The only thing that made it obvious that she was a hybrid is the big orange cat ears peaking out from under her hood. "It's fine." I say smiling. She nods, still looking nervous. I sigh, clutching my hand around the sleeves of my ice blue hoodie. "Look, just because I'm a Briney, doesn't mean I'm going to hurt you." I say, crouching down and snatching up my glasses, pushing them back over my eyes, blocking out the white glow.
"Sorry, it's just I've been told by my parents legends of Herobrine." She mumbles, apologetically, a blush spreading across her face. I shrug it off. "It's fine, I'm used to it. What's your name?" She smiles, glad for the change of subject. "I'm Sofie." We start walking down the street, heading towards the coffee shop I was going to. "I'm Valery, but you can call me Val." She grins. "Nice to meet you Val." I smile. "So, you wanna get some coffee?" She nods. "Why not! I'll pay, to make up for knocking into you." I wave my hand dismissively. "I've been experimented on since I was four, I have plenty of money to spend." Most people who were born here started experimentation at age ten. I did it early because I had no parents to support me. "You sure?" She asks. I smile. "Yeah, don't worry." She shrugs, and we continue to walk. Finally, after twenty years, I've finally made a friend.
