I sit quietly in the waiting room, my body numb with shock. Ty looks over at me every few minutes worriedly, but says nothing. My mind is racing a chunk per minute, confusion and fear edging at my thoughts. What just happened in there? They put something in my arm, and took blood samples. That's something they never do! And they gave me a Potion of Memory Erasing, which is one of the rarest potions in all of Minecraftia, but it didn't work. I can still remember the whole incident as vividly as if I was still living it. Why can I still remember it! Even with my head flooded with thoughts, my body is perfectly still, my posture perfect, and my arms folded neatly across my chest.
"Hey are you okay? You're being really quiet, and you never seem to be quiet." Ty says after a while. I look over at him and nod.
"Yeah I'm fine, just thinking." I murmur, looking at the door where Adam had gone in. He doesn't look convinced, but he leaves me be, looking around the room and taking in the surroundings. It's not a very interesting space, a large, white room made of quarts, with clay-slab floors and cushioned chairs. Then theirs the plain old iron doors with their pressure plates, and the oak-wood desk. It's a sight I'm extremely familiar with, but now I'm not sure if I can trust anything I see as simple. After a while of waiting, the door swings back open, and Adam comes back out, beads of sweat lacing the side of his head. He comes over and sits down, Ty getting up and walking to the lady to go in for experimenting. Will he be able to remember?I look at Adam as he sits down. He look blankly at the floor, lightly panting for a moment before looking up at me.
What the hell just happened in there?
My eyes widen behind my shades, and my eyebrows raise. That was Adam's voice, but it was in my head. He hadn't moved his lips, or even moved at all. He had talked inside my mind. He notices my shock at I hear his voice again.
Oh, this is a power that I found while traveling, just focus on the person you want to hear the message and then think it.
I concentrate on Adam's face, trying not to move my face, and think.
Like this?
He grins.
Yeah, exactly.
So no one can hear us right now?
He nods his head.
No one but you and me.
Okay, I don't know what happened, it's never like that, and they supposedly used a Potion of Forgetfulness, but it didn't work on us.
He nods, putting his elbows on his knees and propping up his head with his hands. The amethyst amulet dangles from his neck, swaying back and forth and hitting against his arms.
I don't know, maybe it has something to do with our common hybrid.
I shrug softly, enough that he could recognize it, but not others. My eyes dart back to his amulet, and then I look down at my own, the gem a bit pinker than his. I look up at him.
Where did you get that amulet?
He looks up at me suddenly, his eyebrows raised.
I think my parents gave it to me. That's what the orphanage told me.
I look at him in utter disbelief.
But, my parents gave me mine...
We stare at each other for a while, then look down at the amulets around our necks. I slowly bring a hand up to in, brushing the smooth surface of the gem. I grab and slowly flip it over to show the backside. Engraved on the back in neat handwriting is the name Skyler. I gape at it awestruck. I've never taken it off, never lifted it up, not even while running. I look up at him, and see he's pulled back his amulet to, with the same name written into the surface.
"Oh my god." He says, shocked. I'm lost for words, and I feel tears come to my eyes. I suddenly fling myself into him and hug him tightly.
"You're my brother." I whisper.
