Chapter 16

Sherlock’s POV

I burst into Mycroft’s office, and finally allowed my tears to fall. I ran into my brothers arms, not caring that I despised him; he was the only one I had left.

“Sherlock, what happened?” Mycroft asked as he gingerly wrapped his arms around me, as I continued to drench his expensive shirt.

“He… He left me, Mycroft! John left me!” I sobbed, holding him tighter.

I heard someone enter the room, and Mycroft said something to them, but I didn’t know what, because my crying got louder.

“Why did he leave you, Sherlock?” Mycroft asked over my loud crying.

“I-I d-don’t kn-know,” I stammered.

“Calm down, Sherlock. We’ll get this sorted out, alright? Everything will be fine.”

I pulled away sharply and stared at my brother. I forced myself to pull together.  “How can you possibly say that, Mycroft? My whole world has left me, and I don’t even know why. How is everything going to be fine?”

“I’m sure there has just been a misunderstanding. Sit down and we’ll get this sorted out.

I still couldn’t breathe properly, so I focused on getting that under control while Mycroft changed into a dry shirt, because of course he would have a spare one in his office.

“Have you been working on James Moriarty as of recent?” Mycroft asked as he sat down opposite me.

“Yes, but I don’t see how that has anything to do with it.”

“Sherlock,” Mycroft said firmly, before sighing, tilting his head back while scratching his stubble. It was a weird look on him, actually. “Sherlock,” he said again, “you realise this is most likely your own fault?”

“How?” I demanded.

“Have you been speaking to John?”

“Well, no…”

“Have you kissed him recently?”

“How is that any of your business?!” I cried.

“I’ll take that as a no. What happened earlier on that could’ve added to this?”

“Nothing, Jim and I were sitting on my bed, and we didn’t notice John was in there and then Jim put his hand on my thigh and oh…” My voice trailed off as I realized what had happened. I hadn’t stopped Jim from touching me. I hadn’t talked to John or touched him and I allowed someone else to touch . How could I be so stupid?!

“You see what I mean?” I looked up and saw Mycroft giving me a condescending look.

“What am I supposed to do, Mycroft?”

“Give him some space. When he’s ready to talk to you, he will talk to you.”

“You always used to say ‘caring is not an advantage’,” I laughed bitterly, “and I guess you’re right. I’d rather go back to not feeling at all than feeling like this.”
