"Jaxon, what are you doing?" Malique asked me as I paced back and forth in my room. "You're going to wear a joke in the carpet," she teased and laughed at me.
"I don't know, I have this urge that there's somewhere I'm supposed to be," I said, looking over at my dark haired sister. I knew she would understand, I didn't even understand.
"What kind of urge?" she asked, walking over and looking at my eyes carefully. "You're not thirsty," she mumbled, she lifted my lip, "Not in the slightest."
I pushed her away, "Not that urge, Mal, I don't know what urge, but I know I'm meant to be somewhere," I said, and sat on the edge of my bed. I ran my hand through my blond hair, pushing it back as it feel into my eyes.
"Go talk to Ellara, she can tell you something," Malique said and turned away, going back to wherever she had come from in the first place.
I sighed, but stood up from my bed. She was the only thing that could help me right now. I went to the old woman who we were staying with, who had become a sort of mother to Mal and I. "Ellara?" I asked quietly, knocking on the door to her sanctuary.
"Yes? You may enter, young Nightshade," she said in a feather light tone that matched the aura that always accompanied the old witch.
No matter how much I hated being read, I needed to know what this urge was. I slowly opened the door and stepped into the dimly pitted room. It smelled of tea, lavender, and smoke, it made my stomach ache slightly.
I sat down on a plush light purple pillow, across from the old woman, at a short wooden table with a crystal ball in the center. "What brings you here, young Nightshade?" Ellara asked as she peered at me through big, glassy, blue eyes.
"I have this feeling, and I need to know what it is. If it's good or bad, I need to know," I said. She smiled slightly, placing a cup of tea down on the table before her.
"Ah, and I thought you'd never let me read you again after the last time," she said in her wispy, dainty voice. She had predicted the fall of my loved ones and myself.
I shivered, remembering the day my father tried to kill Malique and I. "I know, I know I said I would never be read again, but I have to know, I have to be able to prevent it," I told her.
She must have heard the urgency in my tone, because she sighed and nodded. "I'll read you, Jaxon, but you know that not everything can be prevented," she said.
I nodded, I knew that very well, if it could, Mal and I would still be at home, with the rest of our family. "I'm aware, Ellara," I said, swallowing the lump that grew in my throat.
"Alright, child, place your hands on the crystal ball, let it read you, and let us find out what it has to say," she said. I did as she said and she placed her hands over mine.
I kept my eyes glued to the ball and watched as the smokey insides swirled about. I couldn't see anything, but apparently Ellara could because she hummed and let go of my hands.
"You will be freed, child," she said, a thin smile forming on her wrinkled face. She took a sip of her tea and moved back to her tea pot. "You may leave now."
"Freed from what?" I asked. I didn't understand, what was containing me? Nothing, that I knew of, anyway. What was she talking about, then?
"You'll know, when you find it, you will know," she said. "Trust me, young Nightshade, you will know exactly what you've been freed of when you find it. You will love it, is a very good thing, child."
I nodded, still completely confused by the witch's words, but I trusted her, I had to. She was my only hope. "Okay, thank you, Ellara," I said and walked out of her room.
I walked to my room and stripped out of my clothes. I walked to my bathroom and took a shower. I dried off and dressed in a pair of black briefs, ripped black jeans, a tight black v-neck, and my white high tops. I ran my tongue over my teeth and walked out of my room and out of the house, taking me anywhere my feet would take me.
I ended up in front of a large house with many cars parked in front of it, and loud music was playing. I didn't know why I was here, but I could only hope it had to do with what Ellara saw in the crystal ball.
I debated walking in, but then I decided what could it hurt, no one would know me. I opened the door and stepped in. I felt an urge to look up, and when I did, I locked eyes with the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. She had long dark hair, curled and held back, light makeup and a red dress that fit her perfectly.
I felt as though I would do anything, even if it meant risking my life, to be with her. I would protect her, love her, give anything, just to know she was mine. She was my weakness, yet at the same time, my greatest strength. Our love was wrong in the rightest way, and I wouldn't care what people would say.
I knew what Ellara meant when she said I'd be free, because I am free, from everything except this girl, this beautiful girl who had just walked into my life. This girl I had only just locked eyes with, and never had a conversation with, but I felt like I'd known her since the beginning of the eternity I'd been living.
I raised my hand and wiggled my fingers a little bit. She bit her lip and looked down. I rushed up the stairs and stood beside her. She looked up, back to the doorway I was just standing in, and the smile that once graced her lips slipped away. She turned and saw me standing beside her and her smile returned.
Right as I was about to ask her for her name, a girl with short brown hair wearing a purple dress came up and grabbed her arm, "We have to go," she said, looking pissed.
"Bu-" the girl in front of me started but the other girl pulled her away, down the stairs. The girl turned and waved slightly as she was dragged out of the house. My jaw dropped, I couldn't believe her friend had just dragged her away, or that she just let her friend drag her away. I had to know who that girl was, I had to.
