CeCe, Thomas, and I walked down the streets, laughing and talking. I got weird looks from people as they saw me carrying Toby and I laughed at how judgmental people are.
Thomas suggested taking the back roads so we could get away from people and study for our English and history finals tomorrow. They practiced their drama skits, and I read my newest creation for my creative writing class to them, both of them saying how much they liked it.
I heard the faint sound of screams and handed Toby and his car seat to Thomas. We slowly crept toward the noise. I stepped into the mouth of the alley and walked forward a little, Thomas on my heels as he'd given Toby to CeCe.
The faint light of the fading sun lit the alleyway. I squinted to get a better look I screamed in horror at the scene in front of me.
There, five yards in front of me, was a blond boy, knelt down beside a big man, his lips on his neck. Red drops slid down the man's neck as the boy sucked greedily.
As the sound of my scream echoed back, the blond boy looked up, his scarlet red eyes locking on me. He stared at me in fear and shock along with something else, something a lot like hunger.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing, who I was seeing. It couldn't be true, that boy could not be the person I thought it was, the person I was slowly falling for inside. It couldn't be, but it was, I felt it deep in my bones.
There, five yards away, blood dripping down his chin, eyes blazing red with want and hunger, was Jaxon. I closed my eyes tight and pinched myself, but when I opened my eyes, I was still in the alleyway, Thomas and CeCe behind me with my mechanical baby, and Jaxon in front of me, looking like a killer.
He took a step forward and I took two steps back, terrified of what he would do if he got too close. "Jesse," his voice was rough. He cleared his throat and when he spoke again his voice was sweet as honey, warm as sunlight, smooth as silk. "Jesse, please, don't be afraid. Don't run, don't scream, don't judge me, I can explain. Please, just trust me, I'm not going to hurt you."
"Why should I trust you? You- I told you everything! You're a cold blooded killer!" I exclaimed, jumping back when he took a step forward.
"As opposed to a peace loving killer? Jessabelle, I'm not a killer, I promise. I don't kill people, I make sure of it," he said and this time when he stepped forward, I stayed where I was.
He walked all the way over to me and stopped when we were chest to chest. "How do I know you're not going to hurt me?" I whispered, looking into his red eyes. They were slowly starting to fade back onto their normal golden honey color, and I could see love and adoration in his eyes.
"Because, I've imprinted on you," he said quietly, pushing a strand of my dark hair behind my ear. He looked me directly in the eyes for the first time with his eyes completely red again and it was like I knew everything about him.
Every secret, every regret, every pleasure, every pain. I knew what had really happened with his father, how he felt about the people in his life. I knew his dreams and his goals, his needs and his wants, I knew everything and I could feel that he knew everything about me as well.
"I will always be here, Jesse, and I swear on you, I will never hurt you," he vowed, his voice strong and sincere. My heart skipped a beat at the love and dedication in his eyes.
"Why me?" I asked, slightly confused, yet flattered. I couldn't stop thinking I was dreaming. I had to be. I mean, vampires don't exist. I know he hadn't admitted it, but what else could he be?
"Because, you are my everything. You are what keeps me going, there is nothing and no one I believe in more than you. I know you're real, and that's what his me to the earth," he said, making it sound like it was the simplest explanation in the world and I was silly for asking.
"You're just going to sit there and let him touch you? You're going to act like you didn't just see him sucking blood from that man's jugular? Jesse, he's a killer!" CeCe exclaimed, pulling me away from Jaxon.
"Stay away from us! You're a monster! Stay away from Jesse, stay away from us period, you and Malique! You are liars!" Thomas yelled and they pulled me back toward my truck. I struggled against them, wanting to stay with Jaxon.
"No! Stop! Let me go!" I screamed. I tried to get away, but it was then against me, and I wasn't going to hurt them. "Jaxon!" I tried yelling, hoping he'd come for me. I didn't want to leave, I wanted Jaxon.
"Jesse, he's no good!" Thomas explained loudly, CeCe quickly agreeing with him. I shook my head, not wanting to believe them. Jaxon want a killer, he wasn't a monster, he said so. He said he made sure he didn't kill them. He's not a monster, he's not.
Jesse, everything's okay. Everything will be alright, I promise. I'll see you tonight. Keep your window unlocked. I heard Jaxon's voice, but I couldn't have. He wasn't close enough for me to hear him. I was going crazy. I heard him chuckle. I'll explain everything later.
