"Oh you're with him."

"Susan..." I plead.

"Oh, sorry. That sounded a little negative," A little? "Hello, Harry. This is my husband, Charles."

Charles walks forward, palm out, hand friendly, eyes not so much.

"I've seen you on the track. Good work."

I push Harry to grab his hand. As tall as Harry is, Charles is a smidgen taller. And with his eyes shaped like daggers, solely focused on Harry, he's a smidgen more intimidating.

"Uh, thank you."

"I also saw your accident. Sorry about that. Must've felt terrible having something you love just be ripped right under you." He keeps poking the white elephant in the room with a stick. Like we get it.

"Yeah, it did feel very lonely. But I realized, I didn't know how to treat that car right. I pushed it too the edge and didn't even see the signs of malfunction. I was careless and that cost me more than I've ever imagined."

Charles face falls and Susan latches onto his arm just to keep him from even thinking about lunging at Harry. He swallows his disgust with him and changes his piercing focus to me.

"Well, we should be going in now. I guess we'll see you in." Susan speaks, penetrating the awkward silence.

"Ok then."

And it's just us two again. Harry let's go off a deep breath.

"Not fun." I speak, a little conflicted about this party now. Yes, now.

"We might as well go in...we're guests of honor, right?"

"Careful what you wish for." I say, grabbing onto his extended arm.
