I've read so many beach scenes, and I've found each one to be devastating in its own way. Time to bring my version to the table!

They collapsed onto the sand, feeling the weight of the day crushing down on them.

Jyn's vision blurred, but she thought she saw a sunset ahead of her where the blinding colors illuminated the sky. This realization shattered when she felt the ground tremble. The air became hot and burned her lungs.

Jyn observed Cassians beaten down body as he struggled to find the right words for such a moment. She looked behind her shoulder at the beach where the dead bodies of her friends and enemies lay. She ran all the impossible escape plans through her mind and looked at Cassian with a stern expression. What now? her eyes asked.

"Your father would have been proud of you, Jyn," he said to her. His eyes were truthful.

Those words made her scurried thoughts come to a sudden halt. The light was coming. The end was near. There was nothing they could do. No one would dare come to their rescue. She gave him a weak smile in return.

She slowly outstretched her hand towards him. He firmly took hold of it and together they watched their world come to an end before them.

She had little experience in love. She remembered the love her mother had given her on the day she lost her. She could never forget how tightly she clung to her dear mother as they hugged on the cliff.

She was speechless and utterly at a loss for words.

What did one say in their final moments?

As the time came uncomfortably close, Jyn gradually moved into the protection of Cassian's arms, remembering the last hug she gave her mother. They both remained steady on their knees, finding balance from one another. The heat became unbearable. She clung to him as the flames approached at a frightening speed.

They were inseparable.

Given more time, she knew what would've happened. They would've continued to fight for the rebellion. They would overcome each obstacle together.

Jyn and Cassian: defenders of the galaxy.

Of course she was scared. Death was near, there was no denying that. She found strength from the person whose arms were wrapped so tightly around her. Cassian, the first person in years who inspired her, who fought alongside her, who cared for her.

"I love you," she whispered into his ear. She didn't know if he heard or not because the flames roared in their ears. She had a feeling he knew.

Their bodies vanquished in the explosion. All became white.

She held hands with Cassian once more as ghosts of the force, watching the Death Star bursting into flames before their eyes. This is what their work would do. She didn't know who would do it or how they would do it, but she knew that because of her, because of Cassian, Baze, Chirrut, Bodhi, K-2, and so many others, the destruction of the Death Star was as inevitable as their deaths.
