You're Gonna Live Forever In Me ~ John Mayer

*Inspired by a dream of mine... here it goes ^_^.

Setting: Jyn becomes crippled from a mission.

-

She jumped with all her might before the explosion sent a violent force through the air, pushing her off the building. When her legs met the ground below, they broke in an instant and gave out from underneath her. Cassian tore his way through the crowds of rebels surrounding her.

"Jyn!" he said, taking her in his arms. "Stay with me, Jyn," he demanded as he boarded the nearest ship back to the rebel base.

Jyn's mind was cloudy from the medicine. Her vision was blurred and body numbed. She tore her eyes from the painful scene of her bandaged legs that made her feel utterly useless.

Out of instinct, Jyn shut her eyes and pretended to sleep when the door opened. The person stepped in quietly and sat in the chair beside her bed.

"I haven't seen you in days, Jyn. Missions just aren't the same without you. Kay disagrees, he says it's just like old times with me, him, and the mission. I hadn't realized how lonely I was in those 'old times' until I met you and realized I can be a part of something bigger."

She knew who had come to visit her. Her best friend.

Jyn made the choice to let him know she was awake. She flicked her eyes open, catching Cassian off guard. He just smiled. "I was hoping you'd do that."

She remained in her room for the months that followed. She grew restless as each day passed.

"What did you do today?" she would ask Cassian when he visited her.

"Oh just helped Mon Mothma around the base. Things seem to be at a standstill for the moment. I'm not sure what to make of it."

"That's still better than being stuck here," she muttered.

He sympathized with her and knew the deteriorating effects of the healing process she was going through. "Patience, Jyn," he said, taking her hand. "Have hope."

Jyn was allowed a wheelchair when the medical droids deemed her strong enough. She could barely contain her excitement.

"Cassian, could you bring me to the armory?"

Cassian wasn't surprise when she asked that. "Of course," he replied.

He wheeled her over to a table where she picked a blaster of her choice. She held it in her hand while familiarizing herself with its structure. It didn't take her long to adjust to its weight and grip.

"Still think you remember it works?"

She aimed at a target across the room. It hit just inches away from the bullseye. "A bit rusty," she said.

He laughed before picking up a blaster himself and joining in on the target practice.

It wasn't long before Jyn began to ask when she could attempt to walk. The droids build her a series of ramps and handles to work on. She had fallen on her face several times but always accepted Cassian's help.

One day, she broke. She fell and didn't look up at Cassian for assistance. She just kept her face buried in her arms.

"Jyn?" Cassian asked.

"I can't," she mumbled. She felt the frustration surfacing through her tightened fists.

He sat on the floor in front of her. He picked her head up with both hands and placed a kiss on her forehead before holding his hand out in front of her.

"If you're with me, you won't leave me behind up here," he said.

She bit down on her lip and firmly locked hands with him. "I am with you."

With that, he threw her arm over his shoulder and helped her up. He looked down at her with a smile.

"That's better."

When Jyn could walk for long amounts of time, Cassian brought her out into the corridors of the base. He held her arm in his while adjusting his speed to hers.

When they approached a set of stairs, Jyn paused. Cassian doubted she was ready himself but pushed forward nontheless.

"It's just a few, and I'll be right at the bottom," he reassured her.

"She gave him a nod before running her hand against the wall for support. One stair down and she felt a dull ache in her joints. She took in a gulp of air and descended down the next step and then the next. She looked at Cassian who stood so closely below her, waiting for her last steps.

She smiled down at him before jumping off the step and into his arms. He accepted her graciously.

"I was hoping you'd do that," he said, snuggling into the crook of her neck.

"I know," she replied.
