Shelter ~ Birdy
Welcome Home, Son ~ Radical Face
The Girl ~ City and Colour
Setting: Jyn and Cassian are on a mission, but their plans have been thrown off by raging headaches.
-
Her head pounded like the force of seven blasters was hitting from all angles. She massaged the sides of her head for relief but received only small doses of pain-free seconds.
The pain was most assuredly caused by the mission at hand being on a foreign planet. The atmospheric pressure did not comply with Jyn's anatomy. Cassian came into her room and made his way towards Jyn's cot after seeing she shared his same ailment.
"Jyn, we may have to hold off on the mission," he said, gritting his teeth in pain.
"Agreed," she managed to say.
He placed himself next to her on the cot and stuck his hand in the pocket of his coat. He took out two pills.
"Mon Mothma said we might need these," he said.
"I hate this planet," she muttered before taking a pill from his palm.
She slid backwards onto the bed and put her back against the wall. Cassian followed suit. They hadn't had time to themselves for a while. After being the only war heroes of Scarif, the two were highly demanded for missions.
They sat in silent pain, only making eye contact when the other winced. Feeling his head start to clear, Cassian took this moment of peace to investigate.
"Why didn't you leave?"
Jyn, also feeling the relief start to surface, answered. "You mean leave the rebellion... after Scarif?" she asked.
He nodded.
She took a moment to process this. She was desperate the freedom from both the Empire and Rebellion before her first mission with Cassian. Now she wanted anything but to be separated from her duties in the Rebellion. Everything had changed when she found something worth fighting for.
Someone worth fighting for.
"I suppose I found a place where I wanted to stay... a home," she said with a grin.
"Good," he said. "We make a good team."
Jyn allowed her head to rest on Cassian's shoulder as she awaited for the end of the dull throbbing that still endured. Cassian began to relax his shoulders and close his eyes when all of a sudden Jyn hoisted herself up from the cot and ran for the trashcan across the room.
She emptied the contents of her stomach as Cassian internally slapped himself for not warning her about the potential side affects. He had just hated seeing her in such pain, he only wanted to give her relief.
When Jyn pushed the can away and looked towards Cassian, he gave her the belated information.
"Oh Jyn, I'm sorry. Mon Mothma warned me that that might happen..."
She only nodded at this.
"There are worse things," she said, remembering the pain she felt watching her father die in her arms. She let out a weak laugh to conceal the devastation that still reaped within her.
Cassian gave her a smile and helped her back to the cot. She pressed her knees to her chest and closed her eyes, allowing the burning in her throat to cease. Cassian brought her some water and a blanket.
He sat down beside her and began to sweep the strands of hair away from her eyes. She would've flinched at such actions if her mind wasn't so distracted by the cramping in her stomach.
Cassian wished he had gotten the side-effects himself as he watched her shiver underneath the blanket.
He had confirmed her beauty in their first moments, but after all the time they had spent together since then, he discovered she was more than just that. She was beautifully strong in all ways.
Ever since Scarif, he had learned more of her past and began to greatly depend on her actions throughout their missions. Jyn had continuously earned Cassian's respect from the moment he met her.
"Jyn, my head hasn't been the only thing that's been hurting," he said, being cautious of words.
"Did a trooper get to you?" she joked.
"No," he said with a shrug. "But you did."
She opened her eyes and looked at him with confusion. "What?" she asked.
The soldier within him was at a loss for words.
Jyn observed this and lowered her eyes, thinking of what actions to take next. She propped herself up and leveled her face with his.
She made sure his eyes were fixed on hers before she pressed her lips to his forehead. The sour aftertaste that resided in her mouth kept her from the kiss she desperately wished to share with him.
Instead, she leaned in and wrapped her arms around his neck. They hadn't embraced since that moment in which their knees had sunk into the sand beneath them, and the light grew more intense above them. The two had failed to find that courage within them to hold each other like they had before their near-death experience.
A hug meant they were ready to heal together.
His arms wrapped around her without thought, and they left the aches and pains of their past behind them.

Fun fact: My very own headache gave me the inspiration for this and it went away as I began to write this. :)
