Chapter 6
The World with Three Moons
Billy and Sarah looked back frantically as they heard the sound of the staircase shaped door closing. It was a horrible sound; it crackled like thin ice amplified ten times. They sprinted in desperation back towards the portal. Billy's arm was extended straight out like he was trying to catch an elevator door. But the gateway had already glassed over. Billy turned his hand into a fist, hoping he could shatter it on impact. When he reached the entry, it liquefied again and he fell through, landing back in Bert's den. After Sarah saw Billy fall into the portal, she slowed down and walked to the other side. They both sighed in relief after realizing they were not trapped and could pass through without consequence. They assumed it closed so other beings could not get in or out of the world, without possession of the dodecahedron. Sarah helped Billy up as they chuckled. "I wish I had a video camera. You were hilarious. You were like..." She acted out a silly version of him diving through the portal. Billy brushed himself off saying "I bet." As he left out another laugh and they went back in. The atmosphere became more serious when Billy said "Well, that was pretty scary."
"Yea, well―all we can do is have a laugh about it, considering how screwed we would have been, if we couldn't get back through." Sarah said.
They looked straight across a field. 180 yards down a walk worn path was a pass leading in between two mountains that stretched as far as the horizon. The mountains shimmered, when you looked at them. The foliage shown like a newly minted coin would when the sun reflected off it. The sun-light was near blinding from a particular angle. The trees towered in the mountains, casting the same glow. The sun was high in the sky only a few clouds shared the sky with the hot sun.
The world was hot like a mid-August day. The air was heavier causing Billy and Sarah to move slower, the planet smelled of a deep woods and wild flowers. Billy put the dodecahedron down on a white glass-looking boulder wedged in between two small trees. Billy could see his reflection in the white boulder and the trees looked different to what Sarah and Billy's eyes were used to. The trees looked like a hybrid of a Chinese maple and a palm tree.
Billy closed his eyes and started to run-through some martial art moves for his up and coming test. It helped him get use to what seemed like thicker air.
"That's beautiful" Sarah said, as she watched him go through his stances, striking moves and blocks.
"What is?" Billy asked opening his eyes and looked around the world. "It's all beautiful to me. Look at this grass...it's like neon green!" He squatting down and passed his hand through the thick, bright green grass. "...and those are the highest mountains that I've ever seen. Look at how the sun-rays make those trees' tops glow."
The trees and bark literally glowed when the sun shone on them. The soil of this planet was untouched and rich with gold, silver and other precious metals, causing the very veins of the trunks and leaves of these hybrid trees to shimmer.
"No, those moves you were doing." Sarah said in a low tone. "It's amazing here, though. If my dad is here, it would explain why he wouldn't leave. I definitely wouldn't. Earth is so..." She sighed. "Well, I still would want my family to enjoy this."
"Maybe he didn't want our world to corrupt this one...if he is here. Anyway, you should get use to the gravity on this world, if you want to explore it more." Billy said with a serious face.
"What were you doing, anyway?"
"It's for my Karate test that I scheduled next weekend. Those were some of the moves I need to learn to pass it...Seriously, you should do some kind of stretches, dance moves or something, to get use to the gravity." Billy said in a concerned manner.
"Is that why I feel so weak? I thought, going through the door affected us in some way and when we walked, it would wear off."
"Well, walking would help a lot, too." He said.
Billy went to pick up the dodecahedron. His attention was drawn to Sarah. When she started to sing and do some interesting dance moves, Billy smiled and said, "You go, girl." And started to clown around, doing the cabbage patch―he busted out the sprinkler and other silly dance moves from the 70's and 80's. They laughed and Sarah sang a couple more versus of the song she was singing. They were breathing heavily. The strain of the exercises and heat took a toll on their bodies.
Billy picked up the dodecahedron and they walked through the thick bright grass. Flower patches were amongst the grass and they were just as high and thick. They were full in color of yellow, purple, orange, red and pink. Sarah wanted to pick them and place them in her hair. But they were very unfamiliar. Her intellect made her refrained from doing so, since the effects of the flowers could be as mysterious as they looked. Billy and Sarah walked around the flowers and avoided them in every way they could.
Tired and drenched in sweat, Billy and Sarah's feet felt like they were being held down with ankle weights. They slowly lifted them, to the front of the small lake. When they cast their view on the water, they had to squint and look away. The lake was full of metal shavings and shined so bright it looked like they were looking into a lake full of coins. "We are going to need to drink a lot of water here." Billy said.
Sarah took the filtration device out of her backpack, placed it in the pond and watched the water drip into their flasks. While sitting and drinking the water, a glow captured Billy's eye off the side of the mountain, this wasn't the glow from the trees but it seemed to be further away from the mountain. "Do you see that?" Billy asked as he pointed at the mountain pass. "Yea that glow seems to be further then the trees on the other side of the mountain."
"Maybe, another mountain is on the other side." Sarah stated.
"Are you feeling up to walking some more?" Billy asked.
"Yes. I think my body's getting use to the gravity and sitting here is not helping."
"Are you ready to go check what's beyond the pass?" Billy asked.
"Yea, we better fill our flasks up first, who knows when we will come across more water."
"I agree." Billy replied.
Sarah and Billy started to walk through the green meadow again―there treads were much stronger and faster now. They stopped at a lone tree before the pass and took a few swigs of water. They slowly peeked around the mountain, to see if they could get a look at what was creating the intense bright light at the other end of the pass.
They cautiously walked through the hill pass. On their left stood a glorious city three hundred yards away. The buildings were created from the white stone they saw at the portal. The buildings looked like that of the renaissance era, only cleaner and brighter.
They came out of the pass and gradually got closer to the city. Four presences became clear―their hands were in the air placed on the wall. It looked like they were creating this wall of light standing fifty feet high. Billy and Sarah noticed when they got a closer look; the city was fortified in the light. Four entities were also on the north, south and east walls. They were actually forming these walls' out of their hands. A brownish-green insect looking beast leaped into the air and fell ten feet short of getting over the wall. It turned to ash on impact.
Billy and Sarah hurried back out of view into the pass. They heard a soft gargling sound overhead. Causing them to look up and follow the sound behind them. They were met by two radiant beings and behind them was a vehicle. Before, Billy and Sarah could react. One of the creatures had thrust its palms out toward them, trapping them under a dome of white see-through light. The power of their presence made Sarah faint. Billy dropped the dodecahedron and started to pound on the dome prison with his fists. He quickly stopped hitting the dome and fell to his knees. Billy's cheeks rose, his eyes crushed shut and jaw clamped, he clutched his wrists and fists, rocking back and forth in pain. Hitting the dome was just like pounding on solid steel. The heavenly creature that had a walking stick formed from a branch of one of the planets trees started to talk...Billy could not understand the language it was speaking. They looked like, what Angels were told to him at a younger age―except they were not ten feet tall; they were short of five feet tall and looked like what children angels would without wings.
