Chapter Two: Percy POV

I was confused as always. I knew that I was not currently up to date with anything in the world, thanks to the pit, but I didn't understand this whole "Avengers" craze. I got the gist: they saved the world from some Chitauri invading New York, and now their famous. Big. Deal. I mean, I saved the world like every other DAY, but nooo, no Percy Appreciation day for me. Stupid ADHD, and wow, I am NOT acting like myself.

The next day Peter and I got to work right away. We had a good time, I learned that he lived with his Aunt May and that he was deathly afraid of lizards, weird right?

Anyways, after an exhausting day at work, we headed to Pepper's office to go to the secret elevator that apparently was where I said it was. Peter was shaking dramatically, his teeth chattering. It was obvious that the Avengers were his heroes, in some way, shape or form. The elevator seemed to take ages, and my ADHD wasn't helping. It seemed to take hours before the elevator door dinged open.

The top was breathtaking. The windows were polished to the fullest and there was a... picking up a hammer contest? The group was certainly diverse.

There was a man dressed in all black whose aura practically screamed "I'm better than you", he must be Tony. There was a muscular man with all tight Under Armour clothes on and a cheesy smile plastered to his face, no idea who he was. There was an older, awkward looking man in a lab coat who looked like he just wanted to disappear, and two obvious spies, who looked as if they could jump and shoot in a matter of seconds. The strangest one had long gold locks, and some sort of costume armor on. His manner cried, "GOD". Remind me not to get on his bad side.

I watched as Pepper yelled at them to stop competing, but they just seemed to ignore her. Every person tried to pick up this "impossible" hammer, but they all failed. After his turn, Tony looked pissed that he couldn't, but the group didn't seem surprised. Under Armour model was the closest, but barely got it to budge an inch.

Then the God called, "Ah, mortals come here. This is my hammer Mjolnir, only those worthy to be a ruler of Asgard can pick it up. Come and try if you dare." He laughed.

We shuffled over to the table, Peter looking as if he would wet himself. Then Peter tried, keyword tried, but the magic hammer didn't budge. Everyone laughed at Peter's face, which contorted into some sort of red tomato. Thor, as he is apparently called, asked me to try next. I refused shaking my head, but Thor insisted, along with everyone else.

"Come on, it's not like you can actually do it anyway. Why not try, then we can share Pop Tarts over my victory!" Thor squealed.

But his demeanor did not change. Thor was always looking at me strangely, but never said anything. He cast casual glances in my direction, and would smile, like something pleased him.

"Ok, ok, I'll try." I sighed in defeat. Everyone cheered, but the laughing was short lived.

Then it all went up, down and sideways. I walked up to the hammer slowly to give some added drama. The hammer seemed normal, in fact it looked very similar to Leo's "Gator Hammer" as he called it. I took a raspy breath in and reached down to grab the handle. I picked it up in a flash, the thing was as light as a feather! Everyone gaped at me like fish. Nobody really knew what to say.

"Can someone please say something? Did I do something wrong?" I asked.

"How did you do that? Only those worthy to rule Asgard can lift it. And even to me it is a little heavy." Thor cried, "What is your name mortal?"

"Um, Percy. Percy Jackson." I said slowly.

I think I'm deaf now. Thor squealed so loud that I think that I will have to clean out the blood from my ears.

"No way! Percabeth is my OTP! Pepper, I can't believe that you didn't tell me that you hired THE Percy Jackson! We tell your stories to our children in Asgard. Your heroics are known everywhere! This has to be some sort of dream!
ASDFGHJKLQWERTYUIOPZXCVBNM!!!!!!" He screamed.

"What are you talking about Thor, this is just Percy we are talking about. He is the Avengers new personal assistant." Pepper said, frowning.

"OMG! Percy can't be our assistant, we should be bowing to him and be grateful that he lets us live on the very ground on which he stands! That reminds me, may I have an autograph, everyone will be sooo jealous that I met you!" Thor fangirled.

"Um, sure?" I said.

After that little incident I could feel everyone's eyes burning into my soul. Thor kept jumping up and down, not able to sit still. The party was over in an hour, and everyone slowly filed out. I hoped to keep my identity still a secret, but that would prove difficult with Thor's reaction. But thankfully I slipped out without being confronted.

The next day I got what was coming. Pepper paged me up, only to be met by a pirate. He was wearing a long black jacket and obviously had weapons concealed in the inside pockets.

"Are you Percy Jackson?" The man asked.

"That depends on who's asking pirate?" I sassed.

"The names Nick Fury, director of SHIELD. Some of my agents are questioning your true identity. You blew up the St. Louis arch, were spotted near Mt. St. Helens during the destruction, and let's not even mention your school records. You go missing each summer, and are always spotted around America near destructive incidents. To add to that, during the New York slumber, you and a group of children were spotted with metal men and strange animals on security cameras. And last year, you were missing for over a year, and were spotted in Europe during some bad times. If that doesn't sum it up I don't know what does. And now Thor claims you to be some infamous savior. It doesn't add up." He said.

"Well sir, I don't know what to tell you." I said, trying to play dumb. My only way out would be to act as if I knew nothing at all.

"I don't even know why I am doing this, but I am letting you off the hook. But if I see anything strange with you, I know where you live." Fury said unexpectedly, as if something possessed him.

"Thank you sir?"

"Well good day to you." He said.

Then Nick left, leaving me with my mouth hanging open. The next few days were relatively normal. Peter and I worked past the clock running errands for Pepper, and the building was so familiar, that I knew it like the back of my hand.

But one day something was off, there was only half of the normal people working and there was a tense silence in the air.

I signed in as I usually did, and looked around, quickly analyzing the scene. The people all looked zombieish, and were slightly paler. I looked a bit closer and saw some sort of mark, a red rune that looked like an E with some extra lines, and was on everyone's neck. I dismissed it as some sort of fad, and headed up to the stairway. But that was my mistake, for that was when it all went black.
