Me and Fire had waited most of the day sleeping in his cave. Now he was waking me up to leave.
"Come on Peg, the sun is setting. We need to leave." said a gentle voice in my ears. I gently cracked open my eyes, looking at him. His golden eyes were looking into mine. I got onto my legs and walked out for room to stretch. My back arch letting out small satisfying cracks, relaxing my muscles. I did this to other parts of my body while Firestorm went outside for some water.
Satisfied with my stretching, I jumped off the ledge and headed outside. Firestorm was still drinking so I went over and drank next to him. Dipping my whole muzzle in, I completely ignored the cold this time, even thought it was even colder. Fire lifted his muzzle out and licked his lips. He sat down on his hind legs and waited for me to finish. I took my muzzle out and licked my lips as well and turned to him.
"Alright, I'm ready." I said to him turing around. "Which way is it?" I asked.
" Um... " he said turing east. "this way I'm pretty sure." he said a little uncertain. I went up to him with a playful glint in my eyes.
"Well...I BET I'LL BEAT YOU!" I yelled excitedly and playfully running in the direction he had pointed at, while I spread my wings. I gave them a few fluttered beats, then beating down hard before I was airborne. I looked behind me to see he was also beating his wings.
I kept on flying, but getting higher. I burst into the clouds, getting wet. I then flew above the clouds. In this direction and spot, the sky was a cool dark blue. It was starting to get darker though.
Wow, this is so pretty a bit cold but, WAIT A MINUTE! Focus Peg! Not here to admire the sky. I thought to myself, remembering I wasn't alone out here. Fire was with me, and we were racing. I sent out my echoes, below me. He was right bellow me! Let's see if I can surprise him.
I beat my wings then tucked them in, diving down. My wings were gently whistling as I dove through the clouds. I saw his figure with his wide wings flapping hardly. He was about fifty feet above the ocean. I stopped going so diagonal and changed my direction so I was heading more over the ocean than into it.
I looked at Fire as he stared in shock. His countenance was hilarious. His wings stopped beating and he was just gliding. I stopped looking at him and kept on diving. My wings whistled loudly as I dove. As I neared the water I spread out my wings and and was lifted up. Just a little bit though. I soared without flapping a few feet above the water, spraying up water behind me.
This is great, nice and cold and dark, *sigh*
I sighed out loud and closed my eyes, enjoying the little bits of salt water splattering on my face. I then opened my eyes to see Fire passing me, his wing tipped in the water, splashing with a great wave. I stopped and spluttered, my tongue tasting like the ocean.
I looked ahead, determined, and gave a mighty wing beat. I got higher little by little, I could only catch up to him so much though. By the time we got to the island I was exhausted and out of stamina. I followed him to a hill that was not to far from the village. He landed and a few moments later I landed next to him.
"Ha! I beat you!" he said, as exhausted as me.
"No? Really!? I just couldn't see you pass me, I thought I won!" I said sarcastically. He just huffed and narrowed his eyes. Clearly annoyed by my comment. He was silent as he lead the way down the hill into the village. I slowly followed, with weary steps.
We eventually made it to the village, most of the vikings were inside. This was good for us as we quickly and silently made our way behind a line of houses.
Fire had his nose to the ground, sniffing out food as I kept a lookout. He lifted his head and started running off, with no warning! I barely had anytime to take a breath before running after him.
We ended up coming to a big house, it smelled different from the rest. There were a lot of noises inside. We were standing next to the building in a bush when a viking walked out a sliding door. It walked right past us, with a thing in it's hand producing light.
I wondered at how they did this when Fire got up out of the bush and went up to the door. I got up as well and followed him. He was staring at the door, just staring and concentrating. I went up to the door and pushed the side that was kind of sticking out. A little bit of the light that was inside came out. I went over to where the light was shining and pushed there instead. It started opening up and I was able to squeeze in. Fire came in behind me and we looked around at all the animals.
There were about a dozen sheep, six pigs, and three big yaks.
The biggest yak was gently eating some...grass? Looks kinda like grass but, weird. Sort of yellowish, oh well. I went over to the half-door where the yak was and stared at it. There was this thing at the end of it that looked like it half connected to the wall. I pushed at it with my claws and it shot up in the air. I pulled at the door and it finally opened!
I was behind the door when the yak seemed confused and walked out. I felt Fire shift into a crouch behind me. Well, this is going to be easier than I thought. I readied my crouch and jumped on the yak's neck and it started wiggling underneath me. For a few minutes I just hung limply on the yak while it had it's little rampage.
Eventually it tired itself out and I was able to take the killing bite. I got off of it and gave myself a shake.
"Nice catch!" said the only voice in the barn I understood.
I wrinkled my nose and asked, "Why didn't you help?"
"Thought you probably didn't want me too." he answered. I just snorted and started picking up the yak. He came over to help and we left the village, a stronger ringing in our ears, of the queen's call.
