A/N: chapter and title inspired by "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne

The harsh cold of the ice pack wasn't anything new of a feeling to Rey. It was almost a relief to feel the freezing sensation across her face. Holding it carefully against her face, Rey went to scrub at the remaining gunk on the countertops. Then she heard a loud pound coming from the entrance.

Why would someone be here at 10 o'clock at night? Don't they know this place is closed?

Ignoring the pounds she went back to scrubbing the mystery gunk. A few minutes later the pounds became more persistent and irritated. Rolling her eyes, Rey headed towards the door, continuing to clutch the ice pack against her red cheek.

It was him. The asshole who stormed out earlier this morning.

"Hello? Open up!!"

Walking closer to the door Rey narrowed his eyes at him.

"Oh look, it's you."

"Yeah it's me! Open up goddammit!"

"Why should I?"

The man's face got red, and his face twisted into a scowl.

"Can you just open up! There's something in there that belongs to me!"

"Oh..." Rey smirked, speaking in an innocent voice. "You mean this?" She held up the tattered book.

"Yes! Now open up and give it!"

"Hmm..." Rey's eyes scanned the pages, flipping to the front page. "What's your name?"

"Kylo, Kylo Ren."

"I'm sorry to inform you sir...but, this book isn't yours." She smirked as his annoyance grew.

"What do you mean it isn't mine!?"

"The name inside says 'Ben Solo' not 'Kyle Ron' or whatever your name is."

"It's Kylo Ren."

"Whatever, either way it doesn't belong to you."

Ren cursed his uncle and his insistence on using his given name.

"Fine. My given name is Ben Solo but legally it's not Kylo Ren. Though my uncle is pretty unwilling to let 'Ben' go."

"How do I know you're telling the truth?"

Sighing, Ren pulled out his teacher ID.

"Proof enough?"

Rey opened the door reluctantly.

"Can I have my book now?"

"Nope." Smirking once again, Rey held it high above her head, moving her arm around whenever he went to grab it."

Noticing the slipping ice pack resting on her cheek, Ren reached for it. Soon his eyes landed upon the swollen handprint on her cheek.

"Hey! Give that back!"

"Nope, not until you give me what's mine."

"You first."

"No you."

The two glared daggers at each other. And Rey started to lower her arm.

"How about we return the items at the same time?" She hissed.

"Sounds good to me."

They both held out the taken items towards each other. Ren was the first to take action, snatching the book and icepack away.

"Hey! That was my ice pack!"

"Hm, I don't know. Doesn't have your name on it." He smirked, mocking her tone from earlier.

"Just give it back!"

"Nope!"

He held it above his head, smirking as Rey jumped up, struggling to reach the ice.

"Please just give it back!"

His arm stayed put.

"Please."

Her gaze looked almost pleading and that's when he took a greater notice in the red mark prominent against her cheek. His arm dropped down and Rey took it from his grasp.

"What happened to your cheek?"

Startled Rey quickly placed the ice back in its place.

"N-nothing. Nothing, you should worry about."

A awkward silence settled between them.

"You should go, I should be closing up  and you got your book."

Ren nodded and headed towards the door.

"One more thing."

He turned around slightly.

"You have poor taste in literature, the book your holding is one of the worst I've read."

Ren's lips curved into a small smile.

"Then let me teach you how to appreciate it."

Then he was gone.
