A/N: title and chapter inspired by "Haunting" by Halsey
He came to Niima Outpost the next morning and Rey was surprised.
She never expected Mr. "The water sucks so I'm storming out like a baby" to come back.
But he did.
"How may I help you sir?"
Ren smirked.
"'No need for formality Kenobi but now that you ask I would like a nice black coffee."
Rey rolled her eyes before heading to the back to pour a cup of coffee for him.
"Here you go."
Ren didn't say anything, instead he took the warm cup in his hands, and with his empty one he reached for his bag and pulled out a tattered book.
"Lesson 1."
"Lesson 1?"
Her question lingered in the open air for he was gone before the words escaped her lips. Rey's gaze went to the book he gave her. It was extremely worn and tattered, the cover almost coming off. Opening it up, she could barely contain her surprise.
Property of Rey Kenobi

"Hand up your final papers!"
A girl stood up.
"But Professor Skywalker said we'd have some of the class to correct it."
"So? I don't care what my uncle says, hand up the papers."
With a groan the students slowly got up from their chairs and walked towards the desk, placing their papers in a messy stack.
"You could've been neater." Ren muttered under his breath.
"Maybe if you weren't such an asshole."
He looked up and locked eyes with the girl from the trash cafe.
Rey. That was her name.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well, your uncle asked me to pick up the papers for him."
"How do you know each other?"
Rey smirked, looking at him almost smug.
"It's a smaller world then you think Ren. Now hand over the papers."
"I thought I was grading them!"
"He knows you're too harsh, now hand them over."
Reluctantly he handed over the stack to a smirking Rey.
"Thank you."
And with that she almost skipped out of the classroom and Ren could see the look of pure relief in the student's eyes.
"Stop looking and get out your books!"
You would think that with the quickness in which they took them out that they were at gunpoint.

Her eyes scanned the book, looking over it as if it was some sort of deadly poison.
Reaching for it, her hand jerked back. Fingers barely grazing the cover.
"You could do this Rey, you could do this..."
Breathing in, she reached for the book again. Holding it in her hands momentarily before letting it drop to the floor.
"Damn it Rey, why can't you just take the book? It's just a book."
She reached for it again, eyes scanning over it.
Rey remembers the day like it was yesterday.
The day her foster mother was killed, the day her foster father was jailed, and the day the cop with the kind eyes saved her from that peril.
She flipped to the first page, bracing herself for the memories.
It was then Rey saw the first note.
Unrealistic. You can't just fall in love at first sight. That's stupid.
And right under it, there was a note written in dark script:
It was a matter between fate and choice and following your heart. Sometimes when you meet someone you just know you're meant to be, and Romeo and Juliet felt that for each other.
Rey almost laughed out of pure shock and flipped to some of the other pages. They were filled with the same dark handwriting, that contradicted each of her annotations.
It was Ren.
Now she knew what he meant by "Lesson 1."
Rey threw the book across the room.
